Reflection No. 2: DOES YOUR ORGANIZATION HAVE A LEARNING DISABILITY?

“Learning is a continuous process...” This has been my inspiration until now, taught by
one of my teachers in Senior High School. Through him, I was motivated to push harder to
achieve my dreams. But as I read the text of the Chapter 2, I came to realize that as time goes
by, I am not living with the above-mentioned quotation anymore.

After pondering, I admit that I possess or acquired from my environment the disabilities,
“I am my position,” “The Parable of the Boiled Frog,” “The Myth of the Management” and at
some point, “The Enemy is out there.” When it comes to group works, I tend to just finish the
task designated to me and let my teammates do their “thing” too. Also, I am not adaptive
especially when dealing with new environments. It takes a lot of time for me to adjust and the
worst scenario is, I will get sick. Moreover, I do not want to appear as ignorant to other people
maybe because of pride. Lastly, I always blame external forces when I did not get what I want or
when I did not meet my expectations.

To overcome these disabilities, I am working on with my intra- and interpersonal skills. I

am now trying to widen my perspective and try to communicate group tasks with my classmates
effectively. I am now seeking for the opinions of the others and explore the deeper reasons of
why a certain event occur or happen. Furthermore, I always tell to myself that I must look for
new information and always ask. As philosopher once said, “We are all born ignorant.” I have to
admit that there are things that I do not know that others knew in the first place. Kingfisher also
taught me to take charge of my own actions, that, it is my fault when something bad happened
to me because I just let things happened the way it is and did not take any precautionary
measures to at least avoid the occurrence of a particular event. Lastly, though it is painful to
admit, I do not know what to do when it comes to being adaptive to a new environment. I am
doing my best to avoid catching flu or colds but I am always unfortunate. Adapting to a new
environment is my weakness when it comes to learning.

We are all a “work-in-progress” and I am willing to learn and experience new things so
that these learning could be an instrument for me to help other people and raise the standard of
living of my fellowmen.
