GENERAL AND SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

GENERAL OBJECTIVES
To develop and implement a Library Manangement System for Pamantasan ng Lungsod
ng Marikina, that can handle and manage the activities in an efficient and reliable way of the processes in
searching, borrowing, returning, and managing books.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
 To design a system that will lessen the time and effort of the student
 To develop a system that is user friendly
 To develop a system that will provide a convenient access and timely report
 To create a module that will easily view the books
 To test and evaluate the acceptability of the system based on functionality,
reliability, usability, efficiency, and maintainability

STATEMENT OF WORK

SCOPE AND LIMITATION


This project looks into the processes involved in keeping tracks of the books in the library
system of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina. The proponents concentrated on the operations going on
in acquisition, cataloging and most especially, circulation sections in the library:

1. Acquisition: This module acquisition is a process of securing materials for the library
collection, whether by purchase, gift or exchange programs including ordering,
claiming, and receipt of materials for the library.
a. Selection of items: Collection of books and other so staff can buy or could get from
people for a library. For books it could be hardcopy or original copy.
b. Duplicate checking: A library staff could find duplicate if two or more records are
assigned the same reference type such as books, journals and etc. That means
the staff can differentiate between two books whether they are same or not.
c. Verification: A library staff can counting and checking inventory in the unit against
its book balance at least once in a year.
d. Ordering: After deciding materials or vendor for a library involves a lot more than
when a library staff order something at purchase orders, invoice processing,
catalogin, labeling etc.
e. Receiving orders: A library staff can claim on that vendor.
f. Report and statistics: A library staff can create a report about the books, journal,
etc. That means a staff can take action from that information for library.
2. Cataloging: This module cataloging is the process of creating for a catalog. In libraries,
this usually includes bibliographic description, subject analysis, and activities involved
in physically preparing the item for the shelf.
a. Record creation: A staff can make a record about books, journals, etc in the
database.
b. Duplicate checking: A library staff could find duplicate if two or more records are
assigned the same reference type such as books, journals and etc. That means
the staff can differentiate between two books whether they are same or not.
c. Record editing: A library staff can alter the process information in the database.
d. Authority files: a process that organizes bibliographic information, for example in
library catalogs by using a single, computerized list of name, subject, series for
each topic.
e. Keyword: Any words that describe your topic of research. That means to find
words and phrases anywhere in the Catalog record or in title, author or subject
fields.
3. Circulation: This module circulation is checking out library materials to users. It is used
to designate the service desk where you check out and return materials, as well as the
library staff that work those desks.
a. Patron and items files: Notes about all the patron and items files in the library.
b. Reservations: This book item can be available or requested by another customer
and is waiting to be picked up in library.
c. Short-term loans: If there is a book that is only owned by more than one person for
only one week
d. Fine and overdue notice: If an items or material is not returned after due date of
the penalty reminder notice, further costs will apply.
