Introduction to Teaching and Learning

I. Educational Process

- Process you need to take in order to achieve or attain a career.

- The step by step procedure in where you can effectively impart information and knowledge to your students.

1. Set Goals and Objectives

Guide yourself on what to give or impart to your students in relation to the topic you need to accomplish.

2. Provide Relevant Information

Provide Facts

Find credible sources or reliable and acceptable books (publications, books, journals, lectures)

Teachers give instructions, demonstrate, and give briefings

Give examples

3. Reinforce What Was Taught or Reinforce Exercises

How do you reinforce? Lab quizzes, return demonstrations (repetition), quizzes/exam, homework, asking questions, recap, SGDs

Read books, read further, research

4. Review Information

Clarifying information

Review

Giving quizzes and exams

Answers to questions/ exercises with explanations

Simplifying information

5. Verify Knowledge

II. Teacher

- A person who imparts knowledge and information.

- Facilitates learning.

Characteristics of a Good and Effective Teacher

Knowledgeable

Approachable, able to understand that there is diversity in the classroom (different learning styles, process), multiple intelligence

Should have instructional planning, organized, systematic

Instructional delivery, should have variations when delivering a lecture

Professionalism

Administers assessment, to see when the students are learning or not

Looks and oversees learning environment

III. Classroom

- A student is just a person in a classroom, a learner is someone who analyzes, thinks and learns even outside the classroom, anytime, anywhere.

- A student goes to school to graduate, get a diploma and obtain a career. A learner never stops learning, never graduates.

- A student will utilize a material given to her/him. A learner looks for materials, does not rely on what is given to them.

What is teaching? It is an action or process where you impart knowledge. Teaching is a process attending to the feelings, needs, experiences and intervening so that students learn particular things and go beyond the given. Interventions questioning, listening giving information, asking questions, explaining phenomenon, demonstrating a skill or process, testing, understanding a capacity of students, facilitating learning by encouraging students to take notes, discuss, assignment writing, simulation, and practice. 3 Elements that Engage Learning
