THIS IS ME

HOLY EUCHARIST
- from the Greek “Eucharistein” and it means
THANKSGIVING.
- it is the summary of our faith
- instituted during the Last Supper
- the highest form of prayer
- the source and summit of the mission of the
Church

MASS - "Missa" is the root word meaning

"sending" that forms the basis of the word
"transmission."
-It comes from the ending of the Mass in Latin,
HOLY EUCHARIST
Descriptions of the Eucharist:
1. Instituted by Christ;
2. Ecclesial act - celebrated with Christ
by the Christian community;
3. Sacrifice and sacred meal – a
memorial so that the saving benefits
of his death can be shared;
4. Real presence of Christ especially the
bread and wine; and
5. Eschatological pledge and foretaste of
our future glory.

HOLY EUCHARIST
Presence Sacrament
Presences of Christ:
-Priest
-Faithful/Assembly
-Word/Readings
-Body and Blood
In the Holy Eucharist, under the
appearances of bread and wine, the
Lord Christ is contained, offered,
and received.
2. Thanksgiving worship – Thanksgiving to the
Trinity

 The center of the Eucharist as thanksgiving

worship is Christ, the SUPREME
WORSHIPPER of the Father.
 Worship is not something separated from daily
life.

 How is the Eucharist related to our daily life?

 In what way can we enflesh/live the Holy
Eucharist in our daily life?
 How can you celebrate the Holy Eucharist
meaningfully and fruitfully?
3. Sacrifice-sacrament – bloody sacrifice of
Christ on the Cross could be perpetuated
through all ages.
 Eucharist constantly reenact and recall the
sacrifice of the cross
 Sacrifice because Christ is present as offering
himself for us as a sacrifice to the Father.

Lay faithful live Christ’s priesthood:

1. As a consecration to God
2. As meditating God’s plan to transform the
world
3. As a sacrifice of life together with Christ.
