PERSONAL BACKGROUND

I Maria Disemelo Rampaii, was born in 05 September 1997 at Bongani Hospital. I grew
up at Thabong Welkom. I am a South African and black in race, I am a Female in
gender, I came from Free State in Matjhabeng Municipality. I studied at Nanabolela
Secondary School and obtain my matric Certificate by the year of 2017.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
PRE-SCHOOL
In a broader perspective, when I was three to five years old I attendant three a Pre-
schools called Amohelang which was near my home but the environment was not
safe for children then my parents transferred me to Roma which they were told that
its advantageous because its specialises with English and the teachers also help the
parents to apply to a suitable school for the child, everything was good at Roma until
our church Wesele Methodist opens a pre-school Motheo which forced parents to
register their children only if they were members of church .

Basically I was attending three pre-schools. I have learnt different kinds of skills as a
child and also being trained for the elementary level of education in the three pre-
school, it was fun how I was changing uniforms getting to know all the teachers and
make friends.

Although I made friends and had fun I was encouraged to participated in different
activities, which was extracurricular activities like Mango Grove and Drama Actor
which was from church where we were playing one story from the bible and I was also
a member of a junior church choir which were referred as (ban aba lebese) in physical
activities I did athletics from both Amohelang and Roma. Years passed by and I was
still changing uniforms. 2005 came which was the year I had to graduate, problem
started there, where will I be attending on the graduation day? It happened that on that
day I was attending at Amokgelang and that’s where I graduated.

PRIMARY SCHOOL

Moreover, in 2006 I attended my Primary education from grade one to seven at

Embonisweni Primary School. At school we were offered opportunities to join some
programmes, I choose to join a certain programme called Peer Gold. This program
was training us to be peer educators; there were facilitators who facilitated us to be
peer educators in other to share our knowledge with other peers.
Furthermore, we were just educating them to live a healthy life, like staying away from
drugs, a void sort of crimes and also to be aware of diseases like HIV and AIDS, STIs
and many more. We were also encouraging them to do their level best when it comes
to education because education is very much important, it can makes their dreams
come true. And I was still in athletics at that time but there was no coach at school so
I joined other group.

SECONDARY SCHOOL

Typically, in 2012 I was in grade 8 attending at Teto secondary School until the
following year when I was in grade 9. 2014 my father decided to transfer me to another
school at nearby town at Marquand Hoor Skool (boding school) due to the fact that I
was experiencing adolescent stage and I was troubling boys, so he thought by moving
me away will settle things. By the way I was only leaving with my dad after my mom
passed away in 2007 December when I was only 10 years old.

As a matter of fact, I failed my grade 10 in unexpected manner because first additional

language was Afrikaans, all the subjects were thought in Afrikaans excluding English
and Afrikaans. I still an athlete even then and I got a coach and I was competing
against other schools as district, went to provincial and I came number 3 and qualified
to national championships of SA and I couldn’t make it to the race because I was badly
injured on my ankle.

Though, after failing my grade 10 I plead with my teacher to convince my father to

transfer me to another school because I was going to fail again because of Afrikaans
and more money will be wasted on school fees which was R800 per month plus
residence which cost closed to R1400 per month.

However, he did agreed to change me to another school at Bloemfontein at Castle

Bridge which was a private school. I did my grade 10 with the following subjects: pure
math, life sciences, physics, cat, English, Sesotho and life orientation. Everything was
going well academically so, although I couldn’t pay my school fees in time and I was
always suspended until I pay my school fees.

Yet, my sister was in due (with pregnancy) and I had to move where I was staying at
student accommodation to go and stay with her in order to help her. Everything was
going well, except the complications of my eyes, which caused me a headache for 5
to 6 months, changing hospitals one way, going to the eye specialists and my results
always came positive meaning the doctors and specialist sees no problem with my
eyes.
Likewise, few months passed by and exam time approached and we were given the
letters saying the school will be closed permanently, we should start to look for schools
for the following year. I wrote my exam and I passed my grade 10. The school
transferred us to the schools of our choice and I chose Nanabolela Secondary school.
I got accepted but I had to change my subjects due to the fact that the school does
not have CAT as a subject so I chose History, Geography, Life Sciences, Maths Lit,
English, Tourism, Sesotho and Life orientation.

Similarly, it happened that I fail my grade 11 because I only failed one subject which
was History. And I had one to talk to the principal but my boyfriend’s mother went and
convince the principal but he refused saying “I did this deliberately because you are
not staying at your home you busy rooming around partying and worst part you staying
at your boyfriends’ place, if it happens that you break up where you will stay? Looking
for another boyfriend? The school doesn’t recommend such a leader, grades 11s to
grade 8s are looking up to you. If you want to go to matric change your life, and am
doing this to help you, you still young to live in a boy's home and I can tell, that boy
doesn’t love you. I repeated my grade 11 and I passed it well. Went to matric and I am
grateful for my former principal, what he did he did it for me.

Conversely, I was in matric when people from University of Free State came to look at
the results of learners who performed well so that they can collect their information
and be registered and to my surprise I was one of the 30 learners who performed well
for June exams and Trial- examination and we were offered bursaries and scholarship
and they considered me because I was in sports. I was always on top 10 of the best
achievers. I didn’t consider University of Free State I wanted to be a student of TUT, I
wanted to be far from home.

TURTUARY

In 2018, I was accepted to do Bachelor of Education at Tshwane University of

Technology for four years, in the GET. My major subjects are Biology, Maths, and
Technology.

TEACHING PRACTISE
1st YEAR

Firstly, I was in Level one in education, I did my teaching practise in team one for six
weeks, at Nanabolela High School. I experience lot of things about being a teacher. I
observe other teachers, educating the learners. I found teaching very much
interesting; some other teacher taught me different strategies of teaching in order to
be an ideal teacher. While I was doing my teaching practise practice I found a chance
to understand a child psychology.

Teaching practice made me to see the light for my future; I saw a dream coming true.
For me it was an opportunity to interact with learners, giving the information that they
need and also scaffolding them where they need help.

2nd YEAR
Secondly, I did my teaching practise around Soshanguve at Entokozweni Primary
School. That was not the school I chose to do my teaching practice at but we had to
be transferred from Phumzile Primary School to Entokozweni. Phumzile is a very small
institute and a nearby school and we were many there. After been at Entokozweni I
thought the principal did me a very big favour, because my friend was complaining
about the learners and the environment, about the staff that they were too relaxed not
making efforts to help them with the content. For my side although everything was not
perfect but the school was trying to manage with the situation.

ASSESSED WEEK

Nonetheless, I was assessed by TUT Lecturer who goes by the of Ms B. Janell she
came second week of my practical’s I was so nervous from Monday when I received
the message but I was glad that I was going to be assessed by someone who lectured
me during my first year and almost knew what she was expecting as someone who
lectures Creative Arts.

However, 18 July came, I was so nervous, I didn’t know what to wear, what to expect,
but my lesson was fully prepared went all out to search for more information and all
the examples I could use, borrowed all the resources that could be useful. My learners
were participating and I was enjoying the lesson. I used the feedback from SSD
Lecturer after presenting the lesson, I used all of the feedback and checked the rubric
of what the lecturer is looking for when presenting the lesson, and everything went
good. I obtained 86, from 8/10 from end phase of the presentation, (53/65) of
presentation phase and (25/30) of planning and presentation of the lesson. I was very
impressed of myself.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

Helping people it is very much important. Lot of people do need our help in our society,
in my community we came up with some strategies to help those who are poor and
also encourage those people who are willing to help other people. Each and every
weekend I go to the elders who cannot manage to do thing at their own. I was helping
them by cleaning, washing and also cooking for them.

Another activity I was planting vegetables for people who does not have food and also
for those who cannot afford. I was asking for donation in order to buy food, clothes
and school uniform for orphanage and poor people. Also helping learners at home with
homework’s and studying. That also help me to enrich my knowledge and experience
because a teacher is a lifelong learner.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
In conclusion, according to (GSD) textbook is said, a teacher as a lifelong learner,
when I am done studying my Bachelor’s degree of education in the next two years. I
want to develop some certain characteristics which are a specialist in teaching and
learning, a specialist in my major subject which is Mathematics, Technology and
Biology. A curriculum developer and also a professional who plays a community,
citizen and pastoral role that involves how learners acquire social skills and acceptable
behaviour in School. Being a teacher it need certain strategies and also have
requirement of being a beginner teacher.
