Expelling students as a punishment for heavy school rule violation

Assalamualaikum wr wb

My name is Armeino Fadhlan Atana from SMA PLUS PGRI CIBINONG.

First of all I would like to thank the honorable committee, the honorable adjudicators, and
the respectful audience. In this occasion I would like to deliver a speech on “Expelling students
as a punishment for heavy school rule violation”

In this era of 21st century we find a lot of problematics cases about student behaviour and
their disciplines at school. Just as parents and students have expectations of the curriculum and
learning environment that schools should provide, school also have expectations of students and
parents for facilitating that environment. In this case school usually have ordinances to guide
their students to obey and responsible more of what they’re doing. Not all students obey the
school regulation and this leads them to the wrong path.

To follow the provisions of Student codes and conduct is the right things to do. The
provisions issued some components of a typical student codes and conduct. In theory there are
student expectation, prohibition, pledge, and discipline process inside of the codes and conduct.
But sometimes a typical discipline policy is usually broken up into multiple levels of punishment
depending on the student's conduct.

I personally disagree with the expelling students as a punishment for heavy school rule
violation allegation. I have 3 reasons to support my argument.

1. Every school has counseling teacher. Their role is to guide the students in solving their
problems. Counseling teacher invites the student to share not only their school matter but
also their private matter, so they can identify the students who are in trouble. Knowing
the students problem the counseling teacher advice and motivate the student itself.

*FOR PRELIMINARY ROUND

2. Positive psychology according to Martin Selligman, he explained that the formulation of
happiness consist of 50% of set range, 10% of circumstances, and 40% of voluntary
activities. The relation with counseling teachers is the 40% of voluntary action, which
every counselor must be able to guide their students to control themselves.

3. According to ministry of education, the regulation number 15 year 2018 article 4 it

regulates about the implementation of guidance according to the standard plan with a
minimum of 24 hours guidance every month with the counseling teacher. In this case
student can be more communicative and easy to complain their problems.

Students who have been expelled may find it nearly impossible to catch up in school,
and they’re far more likely to drop out. Even if they don’t, the expulsion stays on their school
record, following them to other educational institutions. Clearly it will have an impact on the
student's future fate. The worst scenario that could happen is they lost their future and got no
hope for their fate.

To conclude my speech today, expelling student from school because they can’t follow
the school codes and conduct is obviously a wrong decision. Nowadays every school has
counselling teacher who can guide students from all of their problem, as well as the ministry of
education also has stated that implementation of guidance in school must be followed from the
standard plan. In the other words guiding and help the students to a better way is a solution that
must be implemented by the school, rather than expelling students from school that have no
impact on the problem.

That’s all from me, thank you for your kind attention.
