Course Description:!A study of anatomical structure and mechanical principles applied to human
movement. Analysis of biomechanical factors related to physical activities and sport skills. Prerequi-
sites: ZOOL 2260 and Junior standing. Co-requisite: must be enrolled in KINS 4400-002/003 Lab.
PHYS 1500 is recommended. !

Intended Audience:! Required course for undergraduate majors in Kinesiology and a prerequisite for
most Physical Therapy programs. This is an upper-division course that assumes you are well pre-
pared, competent, and have successfully completed human anatomy. This course integrates a working
knowledge of human anatomy with basic principles of physics (mechanics) to enable the student to an-
alyze human movement.!

Course Objectives:! To prepare students to make practical applications of scientific principles of
movement analysis. The student’s learning objectives may include:!

! ! 1. To gain factual knowledge of human anatomy with particular emphasis on muscles !

! ! 2. To increase their knowledge of fundamental principles of human muscle function!
! ! 3. To learn how to analyze and critically evaluate scientific research in regards to human

Instructional Methods:!

! Lecture:! The format will be approximately 80% lecture and 20% group discussion. The
minimum time students are expected to be engaged in instructionally related course preparation out-
side of the classroom for each unit/hour of classroom instructional time is two (2) hours per unit per
week for undergraduate students.!

! Lab:! ! The format will be approximately 10% lecture and 90% laboratory skills. Labora-
tory experiences require active participation by the students. There are inherent risks associated with
participating in physical activity, therefore by enrolling in the course your are consenting to participate in
the required lab activities, including physical activity testing. Please dress appropriately for lab. !

Administrative Requirements:!

1. Regular class attendance and participation are expected.!
2. Arrive on time. This includes Lab meeting.!
3. Late assignments will not be accepted. Do not contact me requesting an assignment extension
after the due date has passed. Again, if you attempt assignments through the Connect App and
they do not record, you will receive no credit for that assignment.!
4. Make up assignments, quizzes or exams will not be available. Please do not approach the instruc-
tor before/after lecture or lab about missed assignments, quizzes or exams, as these inquiries can
be managed via email.!
5. Extra credit will not be available.!
6. Absolutely no cell phone use during class. Please restrict lap top/tablet use to class activity.!
7. Please notify your instructor of any conditions which require special consideration(s) at the
beginning of the course so arrangements can be made, this includes any considerations you
will need for administration of an exam. !
8. Additionally, if you have an issue that needs consideration, (for example, handing in an as-
signment late, printer not working), please avoid such requests at the start of class. Please
email me prior to class for consideration. I will return a response through email, but will not
discuss such considerations in class.!
