Evidence: Life from a wheelchair
About 1 in every 100 people is handicapped and uses a wheelchair. Therefore, there
are about 80 million people in wheelchairs in the world. That is twice the population of
Colombia! But what is it like to live in a wheelchair?

After you watch the video answer the following questions. Use any voice recording
software to record your answers and send the file as evidence.

Use mixed conditional sentences (at least 4 examples), the idioms, vocabulary and
ideas about flexibility and adaptability studied in this learning activity (at least 8 words
from the vocabulary). Remember to use connectors and punctuation.

• What does Ashley do to make a living?

Study to develop skills, performing challenging tasks regardless of obstacles.

• How does your condition affect your daily activities and how do you treat it?

It affects where the tasks you perform require more time


• What is your attitude towards life? Do you feel disabled of certain activities?

His attitude is positive towards life. He feels capable of doing many things. If I did
not have that positive attitude toward life, I would have failed in many situations.
In some activities she feels unable to do as running or walking, but she has been
lucky to have the support of her parents

• How would your life be different if you were disabled and had to use a
wheelchair? What would be different for you? (Use mixed conditionals in the
answer).

In my opinion my life would be very different if I did not have my body fully
functioning, since in many aspects of life we must use our members and senses
to perform different daily activities. Although in my opinion the limitations are
always in the mind.

• How do you react when you have to interact with a disabled person?

My attitude is totally normal towards them, but at the same time it is also useful,
since that person may need my help at any time

• How can you contribute to improving the lives of people with disabilities?

I can contribute to improving the lives of people with disabilities, with my service
in the things that I may need.
