Enter Lilith

Lucifer: Lilith!
Lilith: We’ve blown cover already?!
Samael: It’s a long story but it’s all fine – Henrietta and Tom are going to come and
see us again tomorrow, aren’t you?
Tom: Yep!

Lilith sees the children and recoils

Lilith: Very well. Until tomorrow.

Lilith turns on her heel and leaves

Henrietta: [Calling after her] Nice to meet you! [To Lucifer and Samael] What’s up
with her?
Lucifer: It’s a sad story
Samael: Nearly a million years ago, when human beings were still very new, Lilith
was fascinated by them
Lucifer: Nobody loved the humans as much as Lilith
Samael: But there were very strict rules about how you could interact with them –
they were still learning, and they needed to make mistakes and find out
the right way to do things. It was completely forbidden to do anything that
would affect them without passing it through the relevant committees.
Lucifer: In the winters, at night, they would get awfully cold, especially if they had
been travelling and were trapped out where there was no shelter. They
would have to huddle together just to stay alive.
Samael: And sometimes even that wouldn’t work.
Henrietta: That’s awful!
Samael: Eventually, Lilith couldn’t take it anymore, so without getting permission
she stole fire from our world and brought it here to give to the people so
they could be warm and safe
Tom: That sounds like a good thing!
Lucifer: Her heart was definitely in the right place
Samael: But because she hadn’t taken it to the Earthly Intervention Committee,
they weren’t able to assess the consequences and do it in the right way –
humans ended up using fires for destruction and war. So Lilith was
punished by being banned from coming to earth for ten thousand years.
Lucifer: And by the time she came back, the humans had made up all these horrible
stories about her whilst she had been away
Henrietta: Oh no!
Samael: They thought she abandoned them, and so they made her out to be an evil
monster
Lucifer: After everything she risked for them
Henrietta: That’s really sad. We’ll be specially kind to her when we come tomorrow,
won’t we, Tom?
Tom: Definitely.

Deliverance

Lilith: In the beginning
In the ages of nothing, at the start of all creation
No good or sinning,
And the truth be told, it got a little dull
But then there came a new invention
Suddenly there was man
That’s when, though I had the best intention
The genesis of all my crimes began

Foolish and frail
Still they wanted to try
Though they would fail
They were fascinating
There was one rule
That whatever the danger or risks they might have braved
They must not be saved

So even though we could watch, we were forbidden to act
And so no matter what the cost we were made to hold back
When they were lost and afraid, when they were miles from their home
And though they begged aloud for aid, still we left them alone
It would happen at night
Cold and crying
In the dark
When they were dying
I could not hold back so
Down I came
And brought them flame and

That was the start
Once I’d met them myself
I saw they were smart
And they asked me questions
Desp’rate to learn
So I gave them the knowledge and truth that they all craved
But they could not be saved

They took what
I gave them
And I believed that they would rise
But instead they started fighting
The fires
They started
Revealed that somebody had broken the rules
And brought them the tools
To bring all those fools
To war
I’d made the mess
So I confessed

Begged them to end the unrest

Sent to the skies
I was banished away
My people told lies
And they turned against me
That was the cost
And since then I’ve been punished for how I had behaved
For they would not be saved

Evil and shame
Now that’s what they believe
Cursing my name
Though I tried to help them
Nothing has changed
Still they’re stubborn and selfish and greedy and depraved
And they will not be saved
