GUIDELINES IN THE CONDUCT OF 2019 NATIONAL READING MONTH CELEBRATION

1. Reading is one of the skills necessary to achieve fluency and competence in communication, thus, the Department of
Education declares November as the National Reading Month in order to promote the love for reading and to celebrate the
diversity of learners and culture through reading.
2. With this the Schools Division of the City of Mati celebrates 2019 National Reading Month with its Kick off on November 4,
and Culminating Program on November 27, the “Araw ng Pagbasa” with the following events to be competed with focus on
the content standards and integration of the 21st century skills developed and mastered by the students. The different events
shall be participated in by elementary and secondary students from both public and private schools who won FIRST during
the district elimination.

3. The Kick Off shall be highlighted with the Parade of Book Characters on November 4. Assembly time will be 7:00 in the
morning at RRMCES- 1.

4. Events to be contested in the elementary level shall be on November 25 at RRMCES- 1; while on the same date, the
secondary level shall have their competition at RRMCES-2.

5. A deduction of one (1) point shall be made in every excess/ undertime from the allotted time during the execution of the
event.

6. Culminating and Awarding Ceremonies shall be on November 27 “ Araw ng Pagbasa” in a venue to be disseminated later.
All winners in the different events including the Best Float of Book Characters, Most Functional Reading Center and Best
Implementer of the Reading Program (Evaluated last February and March, 2019) shall be awarded during the “Araw ng
Pagbasa”

7. Attire of all awardees should be formal and elegant.


A. Elementary Level

2. Contestants will be given three (3) grade IV level books
pre-identified by the Read-a-thon Contest Committee.
3. Coaches /chaperons are not allowed to interact with their
teams from the reading time until the event is finished.
4. All teams will convene at the contest proper venue during
the designated time.
5. There will be three (3) judges per event

Reading Time ( 8:00- 10:00 A.M.); Contest Proper (10:00- 12:00


noon) Book : English in Grade 4

TEAM READING
1. Each team will be given 2 hours to read the books.
2. This event has two (2) rounds namely: elimination and
difficult rounds.
3. The set of test is divided into 3: Easy, Average, and Difficult
( A clincher is given for a tie). The easy and average
questions are given during the elimination round, while
the difficult questions are in the final round.
4. Judges shall be given copies of the stories with questions
and key answers.
5. All scores will be tallied and computed for the total scores
of participants, and as basis of qualifiers for the final round
and the winners.

Elimination Round: Easy and Average Questions (Multiple Type)


1. A quiz master will read the questions and the choices of
answers ONCE ONLY.
2. A buzzer is a signal for the team to answer the question.
3. Each team will use an answer sheet and a pentel pen for
their answer.
4. Each question in the EASY Round will be given 10 seconds
to answer (1 point each correct answer), and 15 seconds
for each question in the average round (2 points each
correct answer.
5. There will be a total of 10 questions for EASY round and
10 questions for the AVERAGE round with a total score of
30 points for the elimination round.
6. A Team who wish to change their answer, they have to
cross the first answer and write their final answer legibly.
7. A buzzer will signal for the Team to show their answer to
the judges and to the audience.
8. The quiz master shall then announce the correct answer of
each question.

FINAL ROUND: DIFFICULT QUESTIONS

1. A Team with 24 points and above in the elimination round


is qualified for the Final/Difficult Round.
2. All Teams will start with 0- point
3. There will be FIVE (5) questions to be answered in one (1)
minute only with five (5) points each question.
4. In case of a tie, an open-ended question shall be given to
be answered within 3 minutes with a minimum of three (3)
sentences and a maximum of five (5) sentences.

Gen-Z Battle 1. Each Team shall have three (3) Grade 5 students.
2. The contest has three (3) phases: the EASY, MODERATE,
and DIFFICULT phases.
3. Questions shall be in Multiple choice type for the EASY
phase (10 items) and Moderate phase (10 items). No
choices shall be provided for the questions in the
DIFFICULT phase and in clincher (5 items)
4. In between phases, there will be a two-minute lull.
5. At the end of each phase, a cumulative score of each Team
will be computed.
6. At the end of the contest, the Team with the highest
cumulative score will be declared Champion.

4. Questions will include grammar, vocabulary, spelling,
literature, and general information.
5. The Team with the highest score will be declared
champion.
Story Content ( Accuracy or 30%
Read and Tell a Story 1. There should be 1 participant in this event ( Grade 7 or 8) recalled events
