TEACHER USER’S GUIDE

Learning Competencies:
1. Read grade level text with accuracy and appropriate rate
2. Infer the meaning of unfamiliar words
3. Self – correct when reading

I. Title/Name of the Material: The “Read Thru Me” Tree

II. Picture/s

III. Description:

Read Thru Me Tree is a simple and versatile instructional material which is suitable for all grade
levels within the school system for the enhancement of children’s reading skill.
It is a low - cost educational material . This is because a discarded umbrella’s frame and
compact discs were turned into a useful learning material for constructing sentences out of the
words attached to the discs. It is also decorated with balls made from newspaper and bits of
candy wrappers. It is designed to improve the Grade 5 pupils’ reading fluency and comprehension.
It suffices a rich learning experience to pupils in a way that children can freely manipulate the
cards on discs to work on a given task. The exercises are written on colored paper while the
answers to the given questions are written on strips of paper and put inside the balls which would
be manipulated by children after giving their answer to a card given to them.
Read Thru Me Tree is a multi - purpose tree because it can also be utilized in presenting other
lessons. Under the tree are cases (made from recycled plastic bottle) of numbers and pictures,
intended for other topics in English. The cards pasted on the compact discs are detachable so
when there is a new lesson, the children can still “count on” the tree.
