I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the period, learners are expected to:
A. Daily routine
1. Prayer

B. Activity
1. 4 PICS 1 WORD: Divide the class into three groups. Show three sets of pictures that
symbolize peace, goal and dream respectively. Each group will guess the word underlying each
set of pictures. The group who guesses the correct answer in the shortest span of time wins the
game.
The following are the given sets of pictures and the answers:
2. Let the students watch the audiovisual presentation of the song, Imagine by John
Lennon. Play the presentation twice for them to understand its message.
C. Analysis
GO FOR GOLD: Present five gold bars to the class. Attached in each gold bar, which
contains a secret prize inside, is a question about the song played earlier. While playing a lively
music, let the students pass the gold bar to one another. As soon as the music stops, the student
who presently holds the bar will answer the question attached to it. The questions are as follow:
1. What does the title mean?
2. What is Lennon’s vision of peace? Give examples.
3. What is your vision of peace? Is it the same as the author’s? Explain.
4. What kind of world do you see if we all live in peace?
5. In your own little way, how can you help your community achieve peace?
The student who answers the question is the recipient of the prize hidden inside the bar
he/she is possessing.
D. Abstraction
KEY CONCEPTS
The purpose of the speaker can be classified into three: to inform, to persuade and to
entertain.
When the speaker informs, he provides the audience with a clear understanding of the
concept or idea presented by the speaker.
When the speaker entertains, he provides the audience with amusement.
When the speaker persuades, he provides the audience with well-argued ideas that can
influence their own beliefs and decisions.
E. Application
Divide the class into four groups. Each group will perform the following tasks
respectively:
Group 1: Characterize John Lennon using their own devised graphic organizer based on
the given fact sheet.
Group 2: Write three slogans about reaching one’s goal.
Group 3: Create a poster that shows the comparison and contrast between Lennon’s
vision of a peaceful world and the reality the world is currently facing.
Group 4: Perform a five-minute skit of an unexpected ending of the fairy tale, “Sleeping
Beauty”.
F. Assignment
Read each item carefully and determine the purpose of the implied speaker. Explain your
answer briefly.
