Teacher Mr. Resty C. Samosa Learning Area Practical Research II
Grade & Sections
Quarter 1 st Quarter
Time of day

A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and kinds of
quantitative research and the importance of quantitative research across fields
B. Performance Standard The learner is able to describe adequately quantitative research designs, sample, instrument used,
intervention (if applicable), data collection, and analysis procedures
C. Learning Competencies / At the end of the session, students are expected to:
Objectives. (Write the LC code for 1. describes characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and kinds of quantitative research (CS_RS12-
each) Ia-c-1)
2. illustrates the importance of quantitative research across fields (CS_RS12-Ia-c-2)
II. CONTENT Nature of Inquiry and Research
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages
2. Learner’s Material pages
3. Textbook pages Samosa, Resty C. (2017). Digging - up the Principles & Concepts of Practical Research II (Quantitative
Research Methodology. TNHS. pp. 1-14.
4. Additional Material from
Learning Resource (LR) Portal
B. Other Learning Resources
Work in Pairs
Ask each other questions about quantitative and Qualitative research. Or, do a guessing game in which
A. Reviewing previous lessons or you describing in relations to a research type and let your partner identify the idea being referred to be
presenting the new lesson sure you know the right identification of your descriptions or answers to your questions as these are your
basis to determine the correctness of the give answers. Decide how you will reward each other for having
given more correct answer to questions raised.

B. Establishing a purpose for KWL Chart

the lesson Instructions: On the first column, list things that you know about quantitative research. On the second
column, list the things that you know about quantitative research. On the third column, list the things that
you have learned about quantitative research.
C. Presenting Examples/ instances A tree with Good and Defective Fruits
of the new lesson Instruction: Draw a tree in the box. Image the tree bearing good fruits and defective fruits. On the left-
side branches of the tree, write strength of quantitative research. On the right side branches, write the
weakness of quantitative type of research.
D. Discussing new concepts Help Me to Decide
and practicing new skills #1 Read and analyze the following research topics and identify what types of quantitative research is
appropriate for each. Then justify your answer by providing explanation.
1. A research investigated the medical properties of the rare Amazonian tree and discovered that its
component can be made into drugs that can cure dengue.
2. A researcher wishes to correlate the performance between English (X) and Mathematics (Y) of
freshmen nursing students in the college of Nursing at the Central Philippine University, Iloilo City.
3. A researcher wishes to examine the smoker and non-smoker to determine the extent of hearing
losses related to the duration of smoking. Subjects with family histories of deafness, exposure to
disturbing or loud noises or histories of ear discharges were excluded from the study. Based on the
research results, it was concluded that smoking increases the incidence and severity of deafness
and considerably diminishes the quality of life.
4. A researcher explored how the community could be engaged in the implementation of the Brigada
Eskwela Program for a strong and sustainable school - community partnership.
E. Discussing new concepts Four Good Seeds of the Quantitative Research.
and practicing new skills #2 Instructions: Write four good areas of quantitative research which make it important to researchers and
users of data. Place your answer on the graphic organizers.
F. Developing mastery Acquisition of Knowledge and skills
(Leads to Formative Assessment 3) Divide the class into five groups. Then follows the mechanics of the activity
1. Group member will discuss among themselves the following topics.
A. Definition of quantitative research
B. Characteristics of quantitative research
C. Advantages of quantitative research
D. Disadvantages of quantitative research.
E. Importance of quantitative research
2. After the discussion, each group will present their output a song, poem, skit, news, broadcasting or
panel discuss.
G. Finding practical applications of Critical Thinking
concepts and skills in daily living Instruction: Write a short essay answering these questions: what is the importance of quantitative
research in people daily live? In what way does quantitative research contribute in the different areas of
people’s lives explain?

H. Making generalizations Exit Cards

abstractions about the lesson With the use of exits card, ask the students to write at least two things they learned about the lesson. Ask
them also write if there are still things not clear to them
I. Evaluating learning The class should divide into two discussion groups, TEAM QUALI, and TEAM QUANTI. Each group must
propose a study on the same topic: bullying and its impact on performance of the student victims in class.
TEAM QUALI must propose a qualitative study on the topic, and TEAM QUANTI must propose a
quantitative study on the same topic.

1. TEAM QUANTI describes its proposed quantitative study.

2. TEAM QUALI critiques (identifies the weakness/limits of) TEAM QUANTI’S study.
3. TEAM QUANTI defends its proposed study bt responding to TEAM QUALI’S critique
4. TEAM QUALI describes its proposed qualitative study.
6. TEAM QUALI defends its proposed study by responding to TEAM QUANTI critique.
7. TEAM QUANTI and TEAM QUALI try to reach some consensus and conclusions.
J. Additional activities for application Developing The Researcher in You
or remediation Direction: Consider your field of study in your senior high school now. Dream of what profession you
wanted to become five years from now. How will you apply quantitative research in your future job? Make
a short essay about your plan for research on the space provided.

A. Number of learners who earned
80% on the formative assessment
B. Number of learners who require
additional activities for remediation.
C. Did the remedial lessons work?
No. of learners who have caught up
with the lesson.
D. No. of learners who continue to
require remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies
worked well? Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter
which my principal or supervisor can
help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized
materials did I use/discover which I
wish to share with other teachers?
