Ms. Pena's science class is studying weather and weather disasters like flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, thunderstorms and lightning. For a class project, students must research the causes and formation of severe weather, associated dangers, and recommended precautions using resources from the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, National Hurricane Center, NOAA Photo Library, and National Geographic. Additional resources include the National Severe Storms Laboratory, Storm Prediction Center, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and The Weather Channel.

The Weather In class, we have been studying the weather and weather disasters. Flooding, hurricanes, tornados, thunderstorms, and lightning can affect our homes, our safety, and the food we eat. We have also explored the science of weather forecasting. For this project, you are to gather information form the resources below regarding the following topics:
The causes/formation of severe weather conditions
The dangers associated with each Precautions that should be taken
Use the following Web resources to assist you with your research
Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological
Laboratory – Learn more about hurricanes from this this national site. The National Hurricane Center – The national Weather Center provides a great deal of information at this site about the current storm season, tracking information, and weather outlooks. Be sure to spend some time here. NOAA Photo Library – Tornados- Explore images of tornados presented here. Look for similarities and differences between the storm systems. National Geographic – Tornados- Learn about how the tornadoes form and die and why is more difficult to forecast them.
