Deep vein thrombosis is more prevalent in patients who have undergone

surgeries, which reduce movement and enforce bed rest and immobility. Deep vein
thrombosis is a major source of morbidity and mortality in healthy patients. Who
have undergone surgeries.

A deep vein thrombosis is the part of a group of problems together known as

venous thromboembolism. Blood normally flows quickly through veins, and does
not usually clot. Blood flow in leg veins is helped along by leg movements,
because muscle action squeezes then veins. Sometimes a deep vein thrombosis
occurs for no apparent reason. Immobility causes blood flow in the veins to be
slow, slow-flowing blood is more likely to clot than normal-flowing blood.

Deep vein thrombosis may be clinically silent and hence usually not
suspected. Even when symptomatic, the clinical features are non-specific,
presences of pain, swelling and tenderness in the lower limbs are not always due to
deep vein thrombosis.

High risk for developing deep vein thrombosis is found in patients with the
condition such as elective surgery (3-70%) orthopedic surgery (17-84%)
and trauma (40-60%). The five most frequent co-morbidity were hypertension
(50%) Surgery with in 3months (38%) Immobility within 30 days (34%) cancer
(32%) and obesity (27%).

Deep vein thrombosis bad to serious consequences including

pulmonary embolism (Pe) recurrence of venous thrombus& embolism (VTB, Post
thrombotic syndrome and death. Approximately 25% DVT patients remain
asymptomatic, in the long term. But severe signs of post-thrombotic syndrome are
observed in 2-10% of patients 10years after
