III. INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITY

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Daily Routine

1. Prayer

Before we start, let us all stand up for (The students feel the presence of the
the invocation prayer. Almighty.)

2. Greetings

Good morning, class! Good morning, Ma’am!

3. Classroom Management

Before you take your seat, may you (The students throw their trashes and
please pick up all your trashes, throw arranged their seats.)
it, and then arrange your seats?

You may now take your seats. Thank you, Ma’am.

4. Checking Of Attendance
(The class secretary checked the

attendance.) Ma’am, I’m glad to say that no
on who among your classmates are not

here today?
B. Review Of The Past Lesson

Before we proceed to our discussion, (A student raised his/her hand.)

let us have a recapitulation of what Ma’am! Last time, we discussed about the
you have learned from our past sources of energy.
discussion. Anybody? Anyone?

And what are the sources of energy? (Another student raised his/her hand.)
Ma’am, the sources of energy are solar
energy, geothermal energy, hydrothermal
energy, wind energy and natural gas.
C. Motivation

All right! Before we start to our

lesson proper let’s have a tricky game
called
“Riddle, Riddle on the board”

(The students will be group into four. (The students proceed to their respective
Riddles will be posted in powerpoint groups.)
and the other is on the board. It will
consume 5mins.)

So, what do you think is our topic for Ma’am, our topic for today is about the
today? Sun.

D. Activity

1. Activity Proper

With the same group, you will watch a

different video presentations on each
station about the sun. Jut down notes
and make a concept map about the Sun.

Station 1.
Parts of the Sun (5mins.)

Station 2
Importance of the Sun (5mins.)

Station 3
Effects of the Sun on living things
(5mins.)

Station 3
Safety Precautions (Students watched the videos and make a
concept map)

E. Analysis

Is the sun a star? (Students raised their hands.)

Yes, maa’am! Sun is a star.
Can you enumerate the parts of Sun? (Students raised their hands.)
Ma’am, the parts of the sun are the corona,
chromosphere, photosphere, convection
zone, radiative zone and core.

What are the importance of the sun? (Students raised their hands.)
Can you give me one? Ma’am, the sun serves as the energy source
of all living things specially on plants in
production of food by the process of
photosynthesis.

Another importance of the sun? (Students raised their hands.)

It warms our seas and generates our
weather pattern.

What are the positive effects of the (Students raised their hands.)
sun in living things? Ma’am, the positive effect of the sun is that
it enhances our mood, relieves stress,
improves sleep, and treats seasonal
depression.

How about the negative effects of the (Students raised their hands.)
sun? The negative effects of the sun are
damages to the eyes, heat exhaustion, heat
stroke, sun burn, heat rash and skin cancer.

How would you protect yourself (Students raised their hands.)

against the sun? Ma’am, to protect our self against the sun,
we must drink lot of water to keep us
hydrated, wear sunglasses and hat when
going outside and use UV protection
creams or lotions.

Effects of the sun on living things

Positive Effects of the Sun
Enhances Your Mood - Being in the
sun can make people feel better and
have more energy.
Relieves Stress - exercise, having
relaxing hobbies, walking the dog or
by getting out in the fresh air for a
little sun exposure.
Improves Sleep - exercise, having
relaxing hobbies, walking the dog or
by getting out in the fresh air for a
little sun exposure.
Source of Vitamin D - Vitamin D is a
vitamin involved in maintaining
healthy bone strength.
Harmful Effects of the Sun
Sun Damage to the Eyes- Long-term,
unprotected exposure to ultraviolet
light from the sun can damage
Heat Exhaustion - the body’s response
to excessive loss of water and salt,
usually through excessive sweating.
Heat Stroke - the most serious heat-
related illness and can be life-
threatening.
Sunburn
Heat Rash - a skin rash that occurs
when sweat ducts trap perspiration
under the skin.
Skin Cancer - sun damage to the skin
develops over years, the older you are,
the greater the risk of developing skin
cancer

Safety Precaution
Stay in the shade whenever possible,
and limit sun exposure during the peak
intensity hours – between 10 a.m. and
4 p.m.
Wear a hat with a brim or a bill facing
forward, sunglasses with at least 99%
UV protection and clothing with a
tight weave.
On both sunny and cloudy days use a
sunscreen with an SPF 15 or greater
that protects against UVA and UVB
rays.
Be sure to apply enough sunscreen –
about one ounce per sitting for a
young adult.
Reapply sunscreen every two hours, or
after swimming or sweating.
Use extra caution near water and sand
(and even snow!) as they reflect UV
rays and may result in sunburn more
quickly.

G. Application

As continuation of your activity earlier,

each group will be given task provided
with the materials to be used.

Group 1.
Parts of the Sun
You will make a model of the parts of
the sun, using clay

Group 2
Importance of the Sun
The assigned task to you is to make a
poster how you understand about the
importance.

Group 3
Effects of the Sun on living things
The assigned task to you is to make a
poem about the effects of the Sun on
living things.

Group 3
Safety Precautions
You have to make a song on how you
will protect yourself against the sun.

H. Evaluation

Students will make a reflection paper on

what they have learned in our discussion.

lesson about the solar system.
