CHAPTER 3: METHODS AND PROCEDURES

Research Design

The study was done by the researchers in an informative way wherein the

researchers collect data and information, organize it to produce solutions and

recommendations regarding with solving the problems found by the study.

Sample and Sampling Technique

The chosen respondents of the research are STEM students from the Emilio

Aguinaldo College. The researchers pick ten (10) random students to ask information

and data regarding with the perception of choosing a certain field in engineering. The

study was done in Emilio Aguinaldo College, school year 2016-2017 in the city of

Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Instrumentation

In order for us to have an essential research, the researchers used interview as

the medium to gather necessary information from the respondents. Before the interview,

the researchers printed the hardcopy of the informed consent and guide questions in

the designated objectives for formality. The answers of respondents were recorded in a

mobile phone during the interview.

The questions in the designated objectives asked in the interview are:

Objective #1: To identify the reasons of the STEM students in choosing a certain field in

engineering
1. What do you know about engineering?

2. What field in engineering do you want to pursue in college?

3. How did you end up in choosing the course of engineering?

Objective #2: To determine the different factors that affects the decision making of

STEM students in choosing their preferred field in engineering.

1. What factors affect you in choosing a certain field in engineering?

2. Who are the persons who encourage you to take engineering?

3. What do you think are the possible things you will encounter in choosing

career in engineering?

Objective #3: To give some benefits, advantages, and motivations on the STEM

students on choosing the right path after conducting this research.

1. How will you be prepared in taking a certain field in engineering?

2. How do you see yourself in ten years, after pursuing the course of

engineering?

3. As a student, what advice you can give for the future students on choosing

a career in engineering?

Data Collection Procedure

The researchers collect data using the following steps:

1. The researchers created questions related in the topic that can serve as guide

questions.
2. When the questions were already approved, the researchers prepared a

hardcopy of the questionnaires with the attached informed consent for the

interview.

3. Before starting the interview, the researchers let the participants read the

informed consent to guarantee the confidentiality of all the information gathered.

4. The researcher personally interviewed and collected the necessary information to

the chosen senior high school students of Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite.

Open-ended questions about the topic were asked to generate a more

comprehensive and insightful understanding of the topic under study.

5. After the interview, the researchers transcribed and arranged the participants'

answers.
