Course#_AMEM 10004 – Hydraulics_ Project #_7 – hose & tube (B2.04) _

Student Name__________________________ Date________________________

 This project is evaluated by grading.

X This project is evaluated as complete or incomplete. In order to receive a
complete on this project, you need to finish all steps below to the
following Standard/s:

Due Date: 1 Week After Completion

INTRODUCTION

The project will introduce the student to the fabrication of rigid and flexible fluid lines. The student will
manufacture both a rigid line with flared ends and a flexible line the appropriate fittings. These will then
be installed into the wing box to ensure proper installation procedures. After installation, the lines will
then be pressurized and tested for leaks

EXPERIMENT OBJECTIVES

As a result of this shop experience, you should be able to accomplish the following:

 Identify the component to fabricate a rigid line

 Flare and inspect the flare on a rigid line
 Identify the components to fabricate a flex line
 Install socket, nipple and nut on a flex line
 Install lines and torque nuts
 Pressure test lines for leaks

PROCEDURE

Step Task 1 – Rigid Line Initials Date

Locate the components needed (wing box, rigid line, flaring
tool, fittings, etc.)
1

Determine length & minimum bend radius for the line between
the two #2 fittings on the wing box (or assigned fittings by the
instructor)
2 Radius =

Length =

Have the instructor confirm the measurements

Step Task 4 – Questions Initials Date

Answer the following questions
1
What is the correct angle for an aviation flare (MS and AN)?

Q1
37 degrees

When determining the length of a rigid line what extra length

added and why?

Q2 10% provides a margin of safety for minor variations in bending.

What is the lay line and what information makes the lay line?
The lay line is a marking on the outside cover of a flex line. The line has the
information needed to identify the hose (such as the MIL-SPEC number, the
manufacturer’s name or symbol, the dash number representing the hose size,
and in some cases, the manufacturer’s part number along with the year and
Q3 quarter the hose was manufactured).

When installing or inspecting a flex line, what does the lay line
indicate?

The lay line also gives a means to check and indicate if the hose is twisted or
not by examine if the line is straight or twisted.
Q4

For the rigid line – what is the distance between clamps?

Q5
16 inches
