TECHNICAL SUPPORT – PRODUCT WORKFLOW

Downloading From a Sokkia SDR33 Data Collector into Softdesk

Prerequisites:
• Set the SDR33 to collect data in the NUMERIC4 format before collecting data.
• Use the Test Wizard to check the communication link between collector and computer.
• Flow control should be set to <Hardware> controlled.
• Survey 7.6 with 13c4a (or13c4) Autocad or Survey 8.0 with Autocad 14 is required

Overview:
You can download survey data from the SDR33 data collector through the Survey Link DC program within the
Survey Module. Download the data from the SDR33 to a raw file (.sdr). Convert the file to a Softdesk Field
Book file (.fbk). Import the field book file.

Procedure:
1. Select the <Survey> ⇒ <Collect> ⇒ <Data Collection Link> ⇒ <Transfer> ⇒ <Receive File>
command. Select the <Settings> button. Flow control must be set to “Hardware” controlled.
2. Run the Survey ⇒ <Collect> ⇒ <Data Collection Link> ⇒ <Transfer> ⇒ <Receive File> command.
3. Convert the .sdr file to a Softdesk field book file (.fbk). Format coordinate file to a TDS format. Survey ⇒
<Collect> ⇒ <Data Collection Link> ⇒ <Conversions> ⇒ <Convert File Format> ⇒ Input type is
SDR3 and Output Type is Softdesk DCA.
4. Select the <Collect> ⇒ <Import Field Book> command.

Uploading to a SDR33 using Softdesk

Prerequisites:
• Point descriptions must be no greater than 16 characters in length. This is a requirement for the SDR raw
format.

Solution:
You can upload points from the COGO point database to the SDR33 data collector with the Survey Link DC by
first exporting the desired points to a (P,N,E,Z,D) ASCII file format, then convert the PNEZD coordinate file to a
TDS coordinate file, then send the TDS coordinate file to the SDR33.

1. First, create the export file: COGO ⇒ <Points> ⇒ <Import/Export Points> ⇒ <Export Points to File> ⇒
Format Name: PNEZD with a Comma delimiter. File name needs the file extension (.asc). Note the
directory the file is created in. Select the desired points from the options listed at the command line. If the
points to be uploaded have no elevations, create a PNED format and use that instead of the PNEZD.
2. Next, convert the PNEZD format coordinate file to a TDS format coordinate file: Survey ⇒ <Collect> ⇒
<Data Collection Link> ⇒ <Conversions> ⇒ <Convert File format> ⇒ Input is Coordinate File and Input

Type is ASCII (N,E,Z Note) ⇒ Choose File and Open the .ASC file created above ⇒ Output type is TDS
Coordinates (Non-sequentially usually) ⇒ Output file name needs a file extension (.CR5) ⇒ Convert
3. Prepare SDR33 to receive and check the UNIT setting under <FUNC> and <UNITS>
4. Finally, upload the TDS format Coordinate file to the SDR33 collector: Survey ⇒ <Collect> ⇒ <Data
Collection Link> ⇒ <Transfer> ⇒ <Send File> ⇒ File type is Coordinate, toggle on “Entire File”, choose
File and select the .CR5 file created above, type an output file name, Send Output to a SDR2 Data
Collector ⇒ Send. Ensure the file is sent in Numeric4 Digit format by selecting Send Output to the SDR2
data collector. You may have to go into Setup and change the Flow Control to XON / XOFF. Remember to
change the Flow control back to Hardware before attempting to download.
