TO IMPROVE THE WORLD LIFE

Mechanical engineering is the discipline that applies engineering, physics and science
materials to designing and analyzing mechanical systems. This field requires an
understanding of core areas including mechanics, dynamic, thermodynamics,
structural analysis and electricity. Mechanic engineering emerged like a field during the
Industrial Revolution, but the application of this can be seen in the archives of different
ancient and medieval societies. However, when we talk about Mechanical Engineering
it’s important to consider how is the Mechanical Engineering improving the lifestyle of
the people, how it’s seen in Colombia and the development of this field in the country.

Mechanical engineering is improving and helping the environment. In fact several

technological advances have been made, such as the analysis of wave energy
converter arrays deployed in the Black Sea. Ilkay özer Erselcan and Abdi Kükner from
Istanbul Technical University investigated the effect of the number or wave energy
converters in an array on the generation of energy using a type of floats. Ideas like
these are changing the energy production and without affecting the environment, even
this idea produces more energy than other forms of energy production. This
demonstrates one of the many ways to take care of the environment through the last
mechanical engineering technology.

In Colombia the mechanical engineering is seen to protect the people’s lives due to the
violence problems of the country. An unmanned robot (UAV) is the creation of Juan
Pablo Rodriguez and Carolina Castiblanco, students of engineering of the Javeriana
university to detect anti personal mines. The UAV uses a visual recognition system to
detect those mines that are partially visible on the ground. Inventions like these are the
most important for a country like this, with so many problems of violence, robots like
UAV has saved many lives of soldiers. So this shows that Colombia hasn’t stayed
behind in term of technological advances.

In this country engineering is emerging in a slowly, so the advances related to the

design and use of natural resources aren’t very efficient. On average $535 billion is
invested from 2010 to 2015 to have potable water in the world and isn’t sufficient.
Cities consume three quarters of the water, and 70% of the world’s inhabitants will live
them by 2050. To solve the problems, new water conservation and storage
technologies should be developed. In areas where aquifers are depleting and rainwater
input is increasingly unpredictable, innovation in conservation and storages systems is
specially necessary. The development of conservation technologies should be
compatible with a reduction in energy consumption.

To improve people’s lifestyles and the state of the planetarium in general it’s necessary
to advance in technology, mechanical engineering demonstrates many ways of caring
for the environment. Even in Colombia need more focus on technology because this
country is just being developed in this area so that development of the technology
should be compatible with the reduction of contamination. But why the government
won’t focus on new technologies for a developing country like Colombia.
