Major Industries Of Pakistan

 Cement
 Textile
 Sports
 Sugar
Cement Industry

 At present 24 cement factories are operating in the

country, out of these 4 factories are in public sector and
20 are in private sector.
 The installed capacity of cement is 16,300 thousand tons
out of which 9935 thousand tons of cement was produced
in 2001-02. This industry has been allowed duty free
import of plant and machinery.
Textile Industry

 The textile industry is the largest industry of Pakistan. At the time of

partition, Pakistan received only 17 textile units in its share. The production
of textile was very low and a large quantity of textile had to be imported to
meet the domestic, requirements. Now, Pakistan is a prominent country for
the production of textile.
 The textile industry accounts for 17.3% of value added, 32.2% of industrial
employment and 60% of total exports. There were 354 mills operating in the
textile industry in 2001-02. The installed capacity of spindles was 8841
thousand and installed capacity of looms was 10 thousand in the same year.
 The production of cloth was 558 million square meters by the organized mills
sector. Various steps have been taken by the Government for the growth of
the textile industry e.g. the provision of incentives, freedom to acquire
technical assistance from abroad and directly financing institutions.
Sugar Industry

 In 1947, there were only 2 sugar factories in Pakistan, but at

present there are 77 sugar factories in the industry. During the
year 2001-02 total production of sugar was 3247 thousand
tones.
 Revolutionary steps are required to expand the working
capacity of this industry, which must be expanded and facilities
should be provided to farmers for the production of better
crops.
Minor Industries Of Pakistan

 Tobacco
 Sports
 Brick Kiln
 Surgical Instrument

Pakistan, it provides employment to people in rural areas where
agriculture is not enough to sustain all the people.

the province of Punjab. All the items of sports of the best quality are
manufactured in the city of Sialkot and sports industry in Sialkot is the main
factor of Sialkot’s economy as it earns great profit from it due to the high
demand of sports good in international market.
Environmental Concerns Of Major and
Minor Industries
 Industry’s waste is disposed into lakes nearby hence causing water pollution.
 Toxic gases coming from industries such as brick kiln industry cause air
pollution.
 Acid rain occurs.
 Global warming occurs.
 Climate change takes place.
 Diseases are spread such as skin diseases and lung cancer.
 Land degradation.
How to solve these problems

 Implementing the strict guidelines set by the local governing bodies

pertaining to waste water disposal should solve the problem to a great
extent.
 Proper treatment of wastes before disposal into rivers.
 Invest in latest technology.
 Make laws to limit disposal of waste into rivers.
 Make industries in less densely populated areas so that less people get
diseases.
Industries of UAE and Qatar

 UAE has many top industries such as Advertising, Engineering and Oil/Gas.
 Qatar’s major industries are crude oil producing,Cement,LNG/GTL production
 Both the countries rely hugely on oil production.
 Both the countries are huge exporters of oil to other nation such as Pakistan.
 Government takes initiative of employing and teaching in the sector of industry.
 High GDP, Economy, Per capita income and DGP growth are all due to industrial work.
