a) Differentiate between CESMM and SMM (8Marks)
b) Define the term variation and explain the various ways of valuing variations (8Marks)
c) Explain the following term as used during construction process.
i. Interim Certificate
ii. Penultimate certificate
iii. Final certificate (6Marks)
d) Karanja is the main contractor in charge of the construction of the Science Complex.
Please advise him on the various stages he has to undergo before he is paid his first
payment. (8Marks)

given by the university management before he starts the construction process. (20Marks)

a) Define the term valuation as used in construction process. (2Marks)
b) Use the data below to calculate the payment to be made to Mr. Kipara from the start of
the project to the end. Consider an eight month defect liability period for the project.
