Chart Tips:

 To repeat chart, work stitches

between red lines. Only work
stitches outside the red lines at
beginning and end of row.
 Black areas indicate that
stitches have been decreased.
There are no stitches in this
area.
 After Row 4, change to size 8
needles.
 Place marker on one of the
cdd’s of Row 13, to make
counting rows easier. When
you have 8 slipped-stitch V’s
above the marked stitch, it is
time to start Row 31.

Crocheted Picot Edging for Body of Capelet:

Join yarn at top left front opening of body of capelet, just below ribbing, from RS of work. To do this,
find the first st of Row 44 of body ( this is a selvedge stitch that was slipped, and it will be the 22nd
selvedge stitch from the bottom of the capelet). You will be inserting your hook under both strands of
this stitch, from front to back. Ch 1, sc in this stitch, and in each sevedge st to corner (22 sc). Along
bottom edge of capelet, work into the back strand of each chain cast-on st: Work 2 sc in first chain
cast-on st, sc in next 5 sts, *[sc, (ch 3, sl st in top of sc—picot completed), sc] in next st, sc in next 4
sts, (draw up lp in next st, sk 1 st, draw up lp in next st, yo and draw through all lps—double dec com-
pleted), sc in next 4 sts. Rep from * across cast-on edge of capelet, ending (sc, picot, sc) in next st, sc
in next 5 sts, 2 sc in corner st. Working along other front opening edge of capelet, sc in first 22 sts, in-
serting hook under both strands of st, turn work, ch 3, sk 2 sts, sc in next st, sl st in next st, turn work,
7 sc in ch-3, sl st in top of sc (Buttonhole formed). Break off.

Collar Edging:

Join yarn to top of first st of Crocheted Picot Edging (on left front opening, where you started the Body
Edging, from the WS of work). Working along edge of ribbing under both strands of selvedge st, 16 sc
along edge of collar ribbing, 2 sc in first bound-off st, (for bottom edge of collar, work into the back
strand of the chain of the bound-off st, as you did on the cast-on sts at the lower edge of the body), sc
in next 3 sts, *(sc, picot, sc) in next st, sc in next 2 sts, double dec, sc in next 2 sts. Rep from * across
collar edge, ending (sc, picot, sc) in next st, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in corner st. Working along the edge
of the collar ribbing (inserting hook under both strands of st), sc in each selvedge st (16 sc), sl st to first
st of Body Edging. End off.

Finishing: With matching thread, sew button opposite button loop. Weave in ends.

Blocking: If desired, block the capelet by folding it in half , wrong sides together, so that front
edges are together. Spread the capelet out evenly, and pin the picots so they stand out nicely. The
collar and lower edge should fan out nicely. Spray with water till dampened, and let air dry.

Stitch Techniques Used in this Pattern:

Centered Double Decrease: Slip 2 tog k-wise, k1, pass 2 slipped sts over. This creates a
decrease in which the center stitch is on top.

Chain Cast-On: Make a slip knot on the crochet hook. Wrap the ball end of
the yarn around the needle, and draw through the lp on the
hook. One cast-on st completed; repeat until you have one
less st than instructed, then transfer the lp from the hook to
the needle. The wraps around the needle are your cast-on sts.

Double Decrease (knit): Slip 1 k-wise, k2tog, psso. This creates a double decrease which
slants to the left.

Double Decrease (sc): Draw up lp in next st, sk 1 st, draw up lp in next st, yo and draw
through all lps on hook.

Picot: Ch 3, sl st in top of previous st.

Technique Feature: Discouraging the Edge from Rolling
To discourage the edge from rolling outward, sl st along the inner edge of the knit column next to each
slipped selvedge stitch between the base of the rib and the lower edge of capelet, inserting hook from
inner edge of the k st, under the k st to outer edge, and drawing a lp through under both legs of the k st
and through the lp on the hook. Do this for every other knit stitch in this column, working from top to
bottom on the right edge of the capelet, and from bottom to top on the left edge. This won’t totally
prevent rolling, but it does seem to help. This step can be done either before or after working the
crocheted edging. Weave in all ends.

Work from the top down on the right side of the capelet, Several sts completed, and the next in process. Continue
inserting the hook from right to left under the knit st, and in this manner until you reach the last k stitch in the
drawing the loop through from left to right. Note that the column.
“V” of the stitch is upside down.

On the left side of the capelet, work from the lower edge Several slip stitches completed. Continue up to the base
to the top, again inserting the hook from right to left and of the collar ribbing. See how the fabric rolls more above
drawing a lp through from left to right. Note that the “V” the slip stitches?
of the stitch is tight side up.
