Abstract

TITLE : PALASYO DE AHEDRES

I. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Chess sport has fallen in popularity in the Philippines, due to lack of support from the government of past
administrations, several of top Filipino chess players leave the Philippines to represent other countries. Inadequate
facilities to study chess not implementing the signed memorandum of agreement to include chess in schools
curriculum. Lack of information about chess and its benefits. No proper method of training programs. No proper
venue or facility to be trained and hold large and international tournaments.

II. PROJECT TITLE

PALASYO DE AHEDRES (Training and recreational complex for chess excellence) Chess sport has fallen in

III. PROJECT CONCEPT AND DESCRIPTION

This proposed project will serve as a center of excellence for the game of chess, encouraging the community to
engage and promote the game of chess, to adopt chess as another strategy to promote the development of higher
order of thinking skills and values among students, to captivate world class tournaments to be held in this proposed
project. Therefore it will contribute to our tourism. It will create more jobs for chess professionals, encouraging
people to play a more educational and beneficial game of chess instead of computer games, drug addiction and
other leisure activities that waste their time money and effort.

IV. PROJECT RATIONALE

The objective of the project is to promote chess through creating a complex facilities to uphold intensive training
programs improving their skills on playing chess, support and improves their physical and mental health, it will also
educate the public of what are the benefits of playing chess especially for students and older people. The proposed
project will uphold national and international tournaments, this project will also promotes open spaces for public
recreations, outdoor chess venues encouraging the community to participate.
V. PROJECT SITE LOCATION

The proposed project will be situated at the heart of the City of Manila as it is the venue for Filipino chess legends
and world’s best players.

VI. PROJECT COMPONENTS

This proposed project will have a training rooms, lecture rooms, indoor sports facilities, like basketball, volleyball
etc. to improve their physical health, library to read books and other references, research laboratory for research
and developments for the game of chess, a playing hall a venue for world class tournaments, specially design to
play chess, exclusive and quite place to uphold a large tournament. Outdoor recreational facility a chess park
perhaps including the public to play chess, an open space for other recreational activities.
