Presentation: Colombian coffee

In my presentation today, I'm going to talk about Colombia coffee. Basically, I've divided this
presentation into three parts. In the first part, I'll talk about the history of coffee in Colombia. Then,
in the second part, I'll look at the varieties of Colombia coffee. And to finish off. I’ll focus how to
make a cup of coffee.

Now I'd like to move onto the first part of my presentation. Colombian coffee is well-known around
the world for the high quality of the bean. There isn't a lot of information about the beginning of
coffee in the country. Some people think that Jesuit priest brought the first bean of coffee in the 17
century. The first exportation of coffee was in 1835, also the country have been developing as a
coffee producer since this year. Currently there are 38 cooperatives of coffee growers. This
institution was created in 1927 to promote the production and exportation. Colombia is recognized
as the third producer in the world.however, before 2010 was the second for almost 50 years after
Brazil.

Next I'd like to look at my second point today, there are many varieties of Colombia bean coffee.
Firstly, arabica variety is the most common. It is made up of about 5 bean species, such as, Typica,
Bourbon, Caturra, Maragogipe and Castillo. Secondly, Conephora is less common and there only two
species able in the country, Timor and Catimor. A further point is that Colombian farmers have been
trying out new types of coffee. For example Geisha coffee which is from Ethiopia and is becoming
popular among farmers. These varieties of coffee have different attributes and characteristics. The
unique taste, high acidity and body are some of them and make Colombian coffee one of the best.

In the final part, I’ll focus on how to make up a cup of coffee. It is important to understand that the
quality of the coffee depends on the ability of each person to prepare it. Also the equipment and
method are important. There are several options to prepare coffee such as, French coffee maker,
automatic machine, coffee pot with manual filter and domestic “espresso”. However the French
coffee maker brings people an easy alternative to prepare their own coffee with good aroma and
balance flavour.

That concludes my presentation. Are there any questions?
