1. GENERAL

For the compression hand compression tools and hydraulic compression tools can be used.
For every type of compression type conductor fitting use only the die code which is given in
drawing, in other documents or on the fitting itself by the manufacturer. The dies must close
completely during all compressions.

Delivery: The compression dead end clamps are delivered unmounted. The

compound for the Al-sleeves is added in tubes.

The terminal surfaces of the strap are coated to protect the strap.

Attention: Use only COMPOUND grease (250g tube) for greasing the conductor. Use
CONTACT PASTE (50g tube) for greasing the terminal surfaces of the jumper and
the strap.

2. MOUNTING INSTRUCTION

(1) Straighten undamaged conductor end in the length of the Al-tube and clean it by means of
cotton waste. The Aluminium oxide layer (incl. Boehmite layer) on the outer surface of the
conductor must be removed by a steel brush or emery paper to guarantee a proper
electrical connection between the conductor and the Aluminium sleeve.

(2) Bind the conductor 15 mm behind the cutting point (Fig. 2).

(3) Grease outer layer of the conductor with compound in that length, which is the pressing
length. The compound will be delivered in extra-tubes. Remove the plastic cap of the Al-
tube (if the tube is delivered with one).

(4) Move the clamp about 10 mm on the conductor (Fig. 3). Remove insulating tape, move
the Al-tube back onto the steel part till stop.

(5) Press the conductor against the lay direction of the outer strand in the clamp. Take care
that the eye of the steel part is parallel to the strap of the clamp.

(6) Start with compression of Al-tube with the Al-conductor in the indicated direction (Fig. 4).
The compression of the Al-tube can be made continuously or with offsets between each
compression.

 Compression with offset between each compression set:

This type of compression is allowed, if compression inserts with a defined
compression length as indicated in the drawing are available. The overall
compression length is indicated on the drawing and also on the tube as a dashed
line.

 Continuous compression:
The overlapping length of the single compression step to the next has to be between
20% and 50% of the overall length of the compression insert.
The overall compression length is indicated on the drawing and on the tube as a
continuous line.

(7) Mounting of the jumper: Bind the conductor with a binding wire approx. 15 mm from the
end. Clean the end of the conductor and grease it with compound.

(8) Start to move the conductor into the jumper, remove binding wire and move in the
conductor into the jumper till stop.

(9) Compress the jumper in the indicated direction with dies, which are suitable to the
indicated and stamped code number (Fig. 5).

Fig. 5: compressing the jumper

(10) Remove protective coating from the jumper and the strap. Clean the contact surfaces
with sand paper or wire brush and grease them with contact grease.
Attention: Do not use the compound grease for greasing the contact surfaces.

(11) Screw on the jumper to the strap with the hexagon bolt set. rated torque: see drawing.
Attention: Mounting direction of the bolt set must be according to fig. 1.
Tighten the bolt set with a torque wrench. Do not exceed the given
rated torque.
