Hoist Control in the RAISE Position

Illustration 1 g01011350

When the hoist control is moved to the RAISE position, a pulse width modulated signal is sent to the ECM by a position sensor which is connected to the hoist control. The ECM sends a
current to pilot control actuator (1b). The current is proportional to the displacement of the hoist control in the cab. Pilot control actuator (1b) relieves some of the pilot pressure to the
tank and the stem of hoist control valve (1) is moved to the RAISE position by the pilot pressure inside pilot control actuator (1a) .

Hoist control valve (1) directs oil from gear pump (10) to the piston side of hoist cylinders (2). The hoist control valve directs oil from the rod side of the hoist cylinders to the cooling
system for the service brake through valve body (7). The valve body contains a relief valve which protects the cooling system for the service brake. The hoist cylinders extend and the
body is raised.

If the machine is equipped with a hydraulic tailgate, pressure is transmitted to the rod side of tailgate cylinder (6). This pressure opens counterbalance valve (11) which allows oil to flow
from the piston side of the tailgate cylinder to the tank. The tailgate cylinder retracts and the tailgate opens.

The maximum system pressure is controlled by relief valve (3). Pilot pressure is transmitted to the relief valve which increases the relief pressure of the relief valve. This allows a greater
system pressure when the hoist cylinders are extending. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Hoist Control Valve" for further information on the relief valve.
Hoist Control in the LOWER Position

Illustration 2 g01011392

When the hoist control is moved to the LOWER position, a pulse width modulated signal is sent to the ECM by a position sensor which is connected to the hoist control. The ECM sends
a current to pilot control actuator (1a). The current is proportional to the displacement of the hoist control in the cab. Pilot control actuator (1a) relieves some of the pilot pressure to the
tank and the stem of hoist control valve (1) is moved to the LOWER position by the pilot pressure inside pilot control actuator (1b) .

Hoist control valve (1) directs oil from gear pump (10) to the rod sides of hoist cylinders (2). The hoist control valve directs oil from the piston sides of the hoist cylinders directly to the
tank. Oil flow is blocked to the cooling system for the service brakes. The cylinders retract and the body is lowered.

If the machine is equipped with a hydraulic tailgate, oil flow through counterbalance valve (11) is unrestricted and pressure is transmitted to the piston side of tailgate cylinder (6). The
tailgate cylinder extends and the tailgate closes.
The maximum system pressure is controlled by relief valve (3). Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Hoist Control Valve" for further information on the relief valve.

Hoist Control in the HOLD Position

Illustration 3 g01011677

A position sensor which is connected to the hoist control sends a signal to the ECM. The ECM sends no current to pilot control actuator (1a) and pilot control actuator (1b). Equal pilot
pressures move the stem of hoist control valve (1) to the HOLD position.

Hoist control valve (1) directs low pressure oil from gear pump (10) to the cooling system for the service brake through valve body (7). The valve body contains a relief valve which
protects the cooling system for the service brake. The hoist control valve blocks oil in the lines to both sides of hoist cylinders (2) and to tailgate cylinder (6) (if equipped).

Hoist cylinders (2) and tailgate cylinder (6) will remain in the selected position while the hoist control is in the HOLD position.
Hoist Control in the FLOAT Position

Illustration 4 g01011678

A position sensor which is connected to the hoist control sends a signal to the ECM. The ECM sends a current to pilot control actuator (1a). The current is less then during LOWER. Pilot
control actuator (1a) relieves some of the pilot pressure to the tank and the stem of hoist control valve (1) is moved to the FLOAT position by the pilot pressure inside pilot control
actuator (1b) .

Hoist control valve (1) directs oil from gear pump (10) to the brake cooling system through valve body (7). The valve body contains relief valve (3) which protects the cooling system for
the service brake. The hoist control valve connects the rod side of hoist cylinders (2) to the cooling system for the service brake. The hoist control valve connects the piston side of hoist
cylinders (2) to the tank. Oil from the piston side of the hoist cylinders is restricted in the stem of the hoist control valve when the oil returns to the tank. This ensures that the body
lowers at a controlled rate.
Hydraulic oil is not blocked in the hoist system. This ensures that the weight of the dump body and the load is supported by the rear frame.
