ATAAC Fan

The ATAAC fan cools the air before the air enters the engine.

Gear pump (2) is permanently driven by the engine. The gear pump draws oil from the hydraulic tank for the steering and fan drive systems. The gear pump outputs the oil through gear
motor (1) . The fan is connected to the gear motor.

The gear motor contains a relief valve and a check valve. These components protect the system against excessive pressure and cavitation.

Cooling Fan

The cooling fan cools the engine coolant, the refrigerant for the air conditioning system, and the oil for the fan drive system.

Gear pump (7) supplies oil to the fan drive system for the cooling fan. The flow rate that is generated by the gear pump is proportional to the engine speed.
Gear pump (7) on the 735 is driven by the pump drive on top of the transmission. The gear pump on the 740 is driven from the rear of the piston pump (steering).

The oil flow within the system determines the rotational speed of fan motor (5) . The fan speed increases as the flow rate increases. Solenoid valve (3) is used to divert oil flow directly to
bypass valve (6) . This therefore reduces the fan speed when the engine is cold. The solenoid valve proportionally restricts the oil flow as the temperatures increase. The solenoid valve is
connected to the ECM. This causes a greater oil flow through fan motor (5) and the speed of the fan increases.

Oil flow through solenoid valve (3) is controlled by two temperature sensors which are connected to the ECM. One temperature sensor monitors the air temperature inside the inlet
manifold of the engine. Another temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the engine coolant in the top rail of the engine.

Solenoid valve (3) is also used as a relief valve if the oil pressure is too high. Oil pressure is allowed to work against the spring in the solenoid valve. If the pressure difference across the
solenoid valve is too high, oil flow will be directed to bypass valve (6) .

Bypass valve (6) directs a certain amount of return oil through the oil cooler. The flow rate of oil through the oil cooler is proportional to the temperature of the oil. The relief valve,
which is within the bypass valve, protects the oil cooler from excessive pressure.

Check valve (4) protects the fan motor against cavitation when the engine is shut off and the fan motor continues to rotate.
