1. REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1425

- The subject provides insights on how to deal with current problems.

There is a dictum, “He who controls the past controls the future.” Our view of
history forms the manner we perceive the present, and therefore influences
the kind of solutions we provide for existing problems. Jose Rizal course, as a
history subject, is full of historical information from which one could base his
decisions in life. In various ways, the subject, for instance, teaches that being
educated is a vital ingredient for a person or country to be really free and
successful.

- Through studying the course, it will help us to sense the past and to think
about the cultures, traditions, customs, and beliefs we have before. These two
novels will help awaken the Filipinos to fight for their freedom and stand on
their right. It will make us realized that war does not necessarily have to end
through means of violence, it could always be ended peacefully, through
words and maybe even forgiveness. Words are far stronger than any gun.
Vengeance is not ours; It's God. Evilness is at every corner, but thou shall not
fear because good will always prevail.

- It is important that younger generations be exposed to patriotic events

through learning and reading The Life, Works, and Writings of Jose Rizal
while they are maturing. Without this exposure, young people will not learn
about the traditions and accomplishments not only of Jose Rizal but also of all
our heroes who fight for our country for us to have the freedom that the
Spanish colonial period spared from us.

2. REPUBLIC ACT NO. 229

- Ultimately, Rizal’s achievements were not just as a novelist. Rizal was

above all a great humanist, who spoke up for values of human dignity,
freedom and equality. December 30, one of the significant dates in our
calendar as we Filipinos should remember and celebrate the martyrdom of our
own National Hero, symbolizing his great love for the country, the reason he
gave up his life. His life, beginning on 19 June 1861 was all too short, but his
contribution to Philippine nationhood and the wider cause of global democracy
endures. Jose Rizal, as one of the most important figures in our country
towards the journey of having our independence, deserves to have a tribute
as it is our way of showing respect to a person who is selfless and can do
everything just for his country.

3. MEMORANDUM ORDER NO. 247

- Through implementing this Republic act, the essence of freedom and

independence was emphasized to the youth. Moreover, it has been
implied through this act that national identity is a very important legacy
that our heroes have achieved through sacrificing their own lives. They
have passed it on to us, and it is our role to nurture and protect it.
Furthermore, the youth was made aware of the contributions and the
principal life of Jose Rizal, who was an emblem of substantial nationalism
and unconditional love for the country. He embodies brilliance coupled
with humility and prestige that goes along with service. This Republic Act
has pushed for Rizal to be a role model for the youth of this country.

4. CHED MEMORANDUM ORDER NO. 3 SERIES OF 1995

- The Rizal Bill was indeed able to instill a sense of Filipino nationalism. In
his books, Rizal promoted a sense of unity and banding together for one’s
country. Rizal was able to achieve a lot alone. What more an entire country?
People Power I is a prime example of that unity, with thousands upon
thousands of Filipinos uniting against a tyrant to overthrow him. Nowadays,
this nationalism is dwindling. The youth of today does not see the importance
of keeping one’s national identity. With the onset of globalization, people,
more importantly, the youth, tend to assimilate other cultures. Colonial
mentality at present is worse than ever that’s why enforcing strict compliance
to Memorandum Order No. 247 would be a great help to save other Filipinos’
misguided mentality about nationalism.
