A Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in English for Grade 8

(Speaking)

I – Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. identify the figures of speech being used in the sentence;
b. show cooperation and teamwork through participating in group activities; and
c. perform a radio drama using figures of speech.

II – Subject Matter:
Topic: Figures of Speech
Reference: Working with English Workbook for Grade 8, Unit 4 Lesson 9 page 106.
Materials: Pictures, visual aids, laptop, speaker.

III – Procedure:
A1. Greetings
A2. Arranging of chairs
A3. Checking of attendance
A4. Review of the past lesson
(The teacher will ask/call a student to recall the past lesson.)

B. Motivation:
Observe the following pictures.

1. Which of the pictures are more attractive than the other? Why?

C. Presentation/ Discussion
(The teacher will discuss the Noun and Classifications of Noun and give examples.

D. Activity
(The students will be grouped into four, each group will be given (5) five sentences and they will identify
the figures of speech being used)
1. His heart is like a stone.
2. He is the Lilly of the valley and the bright morning star.
3. Walk gently, spirit of night.
4. An hour and half limped heavily away.
5. Dr. Art had a heart of gold.
E. Analysis
(The teacher will present examples of figures of speech being used by poets and will answer the given
question)
1. Why is it important for the poets to use figures of speech?

F. Abstraction
(The teacher will ask/call a student to give the summary of the discussion)
1. What do you mean by figures of speech?
2. What are the examples of figures of speech?

G. Application
(The students will be grouped into four, and let the make their own script to perform a radio drama using
figures of speech, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, irony, personification and apostrophe.)

IV – Evaluation
Directions: Write if the following sentences are example of simile, metaphor, hyperbole, irony,
personification and apostrophe.

V – Assignment
In a one whole sheet of paper, write your thoughts using figures of speech on the topic “You are not ugly,
the society is” with the minimum of four paragraph.
