INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY

INTO TEACHING

BY: GLORIA G. CARRASCO

TECHNOLOGY USED TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL

It becomes inevitable to not allow students use technology, as

our world develops new technological jobs. It might seem easy
to assign a PDF online, but technology in the classroom can do
much more. According to Antero Garcia, Kristina Stamatis, and
Mary Kelly (2018), technology mediates student identities and
helps students articulate the complex cultural experiences and
beliefs that they bring daily into schools.
TECHNOLOGY USED TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL
• Technology has become a life skill.
• Enabling intuitive adaptation to new contexts
• Co-creation of content with others
• Maintain proper online etiquette
• Deduce reliable and unreliable sources
(Himmelsbach, 2019)
TECHNOLOGY USED TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL

• Students have instant access to fresh information.

• Fosters collaborative environment
• Enables students to engage in an ongoing cycle of learning

TECHNOLOGY USED TO TEACH IN WAYS NOT
POSSIBLE 20 YEARS AGO

• Presentation evolved from chalk boards to overhead to white boards

to interactive whiteboards and just recently 1:1 devices.

• Communication amongst many students. No constraints amongst class

walls.

• Skype or any alternative to video conferencing in which students could

have a meeting with a distant speaker.
MULTIMEDIA AND LEARNING THEORY

It is necessary to set up a clear teaching target under the

premise of analyzing the characteristics of learners and selecting
reasonable teaching media.
(The Design and Application of Multimedia, 2016)

In other words, teachers have the ability to know what to assign as long as
the technology is available for the students.
MULTIMEDIA AND LEARNING THEORY
Cognitive Theory of Multimedia
Learning (CTML) is defined by a
presentation that combines words
with visual material in which words
may be spoken or written, while
visual material can be a picture,
movie, diagram, graph, or animation.
(Schrader & Rapp, 2016)
MULTIMEDIA AND LEARNING THEORY
In Cognitive Theory, humans need to see things in
concrete manner to understand better.
• Teachers could assign presentations to be
created by students in the form of videos,
pictures, or audio.
• Teachers could also look into assignments
constructed with social media such as posting

reviews or acknowledging class content.
SAMR – GUIDING DEVELOPMENT: ENHANCEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY
WILL GUIDE STUDENTS TO TRANSFORM THE CONTENT THAT THEY
PRACTICE .

SAMR has phases that begin with

substitution and ends with
Redefinition. Each phase identifies
how new technology is being used in
comparison with old technology. The
idea is to be able to identify the
difference between old and new
technologies in order to modify the
teaching to match the potential of the
tool.
