Workday Hiring Process

1. Create a Job Requisition.

Upon logging into Workday you will need click on your name, in upper right corner, then
select “My Team”.

Select the Hiring Icon, then Create Job Requisition.

First Screen

Supervisory org: Search by supervisor’s last name (this should default in)
Create new position (always create a new position)
Worker Type: Employee
Click OK.

Second Screen – Tab 1 – Recruiting Information

Select on the pencil in the upper right corner to edit recruiting information.
Number of Openings: Select the number of positions you want to create.
Reason: Select on the Menu to the right of the box (picture below).
In open Menu select “Create Job Requisition>New position”
Then select “New Position> New Position”

Recruiting Start date: Today’s date (cannot be hired before this date)
Target Hire Date: Today’s date (cannot be hired before this date)
Select Next.

Second Screen – Tab 2 - Job

Select on the pencil in the upper right corner to edit recruiting information.
Job Posting Title: This should match the job profile field.
Job Profile: Select the appropriate job profile. If you are unsure what profile to select please call the
People Center.
Worker Sub-Type: Select on Menu in the right of box. Select on Worker Types, then select appropriate
worker type.
Time Type: Select on Menu in the right of box. Select Full Time or Part Time.
Primary Location: Select on Menu in the right of box. Select the appropriate location (should be the main
office of the employee – typically the same as the supervisor’s location)
Scheduled Weekly Hours: Normal projected weekly hours. If full time you may leave at 37.5 hours.
Select Next.

Second Screen - Tab 3 - Qualifications & Tab 4 - Attachments

Please enter the required education level and the number of year work experience under the qualification. Please
attach the job description as a document on the attachments page.

Second Screen – Tab 5 – Summary

Verify that all information entered is correct, then select Submit.

Do Not Hit Done.

Open “Change Organizational Assignments” in the upper left corner.

Company and Department will default in based on supervisor. You will need to select the Cost Center and Object
Code. Select anywhere to the right of cost center to get the prompt on the right (make sure you are selecting the
appropriate budget). If you have questions please verify with Finance. Next, select on object code to open up the
object code box.

Click Submit.

Do Not Hit Done.

Open “Request Default Compensation For Position Event” in upper left corner.

Pay under Compensation will default in Proposed guidelines.
Hourly Positions:
Click on the little pencil next to the right and add in the hourly amount.

The rate will appear under proposed next to the Assignment Details. Enter the amount, select Done.

Salary Positions:
Click on the little pencil to the right and add the salary amount.

The pay range will appear. Enter the annual amount, select Done.

Click Approve.
Add any comments that may be helpful for others who need to approve the position, ie. If funding coming from a
different department please include how much and what department.
Select Submit.
