Merits Be it known to you that the traditions that are reported from the Ahl al‐Bayt the Immaculate and
infallible about the merits and advantages of visiting Imam al‐°usayn (`a) on the `Araf¡t Day are
innumerable.

Bash¢r al‐Dahh¡n, through a valid chain of authority, has reported that he, once, said to Imam al‐¯¡diq
(`a), “Some years, I miss the ¦ajj season; therefore, I present myself at the tomb of al‐°usayn (`a).”
The Imam (`a) commented, “Well done, Bash¢r! Any faithful believer who comes to the tomb of al‐
°usayn, Allah’s blessings be upon him, with full recognition of his real position on a day other than the
feast days, he shall be granted the reward of twenty times of admissible and acceptable ¦ajj and twenty
times of admissible and acceptable `umrah as well as the reward of participation in twenty campaigns
with a commissioned prophet or a decent leader. Moreover, whoever comes to his (i.e. Imam al‐°usayn)
tomb on the `Araf¡t Day, with full recognition of his real position, will be granted the reward of one
thousand times of admissible and acceptable ¦ajj and one thousand times of admissible and acceptable
`umrah as well as the reward of participating in one thousand campaigns with a commissioned prophet
or a decent leader.”

Bash¢r said, “What shall I be awarded if I present myself at Mount `Araf¡t on that day?”
Somewhat angrily, the Imam (`a) looked at him and said, “Bash¢r, if a faithful believer comes to the
tomb of al‐°usayn, Allah’s blessings be upon him, on the `Araf¡t Day, washes himself with the water of
the River Euphrates, and then turns his face for visiting him, Almighty Allah shall record for him the
reward of an entire ¦ajj along with all of its rituals for every step he makes.”
The reporter then added, “Most probably, the Imam (`a) added to this the reward of an entire `umrah
(or campaign, according to another form of this report).”
According to many validly reported traditions, on the `Araf¡t Day, Almighty Allah looks at the visitors of
Imam al‐°usayn’s tomb with mercy before He looks at those gathering on `Araf¡t Mountain.([1])
According to another validly reported tradition, Raf¡`ah reported that Imam al‐¯¡diq (`a) once asked
him, “Did you go on ¦ajj this year?”
Raf¡`ah answered, “May Allah accept me as ransom for you! I did not have enough resources to go to
¦ajj. Rather, I could present myself at the tomb of al‐°usayn (`a).”
The Imam (`a) commented, “Raf¡`ah, you have thus not failed to gain what those who presented
themselves at Min¡ have gained! Were it not for that I do not want people to desert going on ¦ajj, I
would pass on to you a discourse that if you hear it, you will never leave visiting the tomb of al‐°usayn,
Allah’s blessings be upon you.”
The Imam (`a) then paused for a while and then continued, “My father has told me that whoever travels
to the tomb of al‐°usayn (`a) recognizing his actual position and showing no pride, will be accompanied
by one thousand angels on his right side and one thousand angels on his left. The reward of one
thousand times of ¦ajj and one thousand times of `umrah with a prophet or a prophet’s successor will
also be recorded for him.”
 
Method The method of visiting Imam al‐°usayn’s tomb on the `Araf¡t Day, according to the words of
master scholars and chiefs of our sect and faith, is as follows:
If you intend to visit Imam al‐°usayn (on the `Araf¡t Day), you may bathe yourself using water from the

River Euphrates if possible and any other possibly obtained water. You may then put on the purest (and
cleanest) of your clothes and walk towards the holy shrine with tranquility and solemnity. When you
reach the gate of the holy shrine (i.e. °¡'ir), you may profess Almighty Allah’s most greatness:

Allah is the Most Great. all¡hu akbaru ‫ ْﻛ َﺒ ُﺮ‬‫ﱠﻪ ﺍ‬

ُ ‫ﺍﻟﻠ‬
Then, say the following words:

Allah is the Most Great of all. all¡hu akbaru kab¢ran ‫ ْﻛ َﺒ ُﺮ َﻛﺒِﻴﺮﴽ‬‫ﱠﻪ ﺍ‬

ُ ‫ﺍﻟﻠ‬
All praise be to Allah very
much.
wal¦amdu lill¡hi kath¢ran ‫ﱠﻪ َﻛﺜِﻴﺮﴽ‬
ِ ‫ْﺤ ْﻤ ُﺪ ﻟِﻠ‬

Glory be to Allah in mornings
and evenings.

‫ﻼ‬ ِ ‫ﱠﻪ ﺑُ ْﻜ َﺮًﺓ َﻭﺍ‬

All praise be to Allah Who
has guided us to this.

had¡n¡ lih¡dh¡
‫ﱠﺬﻱ َﻫ َﺪﺍﻧَﺎ ﻟ ِٰﻬ َﺬﺍ‬

ِ ‫ْﺤ ْﻤ ُﺪ ﻟِﻠ‬

We would not have been
wa m¡ kunn¡ linahtadiya lawl¡
ْ ‫َﻮ َﻻ ﺍ‬
‫ﻥ‬ ْ ‫َﻭ َﻣﺎ ُﻛ ﱠﻨﺎ ﻟَِﻨ ْﻬ َﺘ ِﺪ َﻱ ﻟ‬
guided if Allah had not

guided us. ‫ﱠﻪ‬ُ ‫َﻫ َﺪﺍﻧَﺎ ﭐﻟﻠ‬
The messengers of our Lord
have indeed come with the
laqad j¡'at rusulu rabbin¡
bil¦aqqi َ ‫َﺪ َﺟﺎَء ْﺕ ُﺭ ُﺳ ُﻞ َﺭﺑﱢَﻨﺎ ﺑِﭑﻟ‬

son of your servant and your
wabnu amatika
bondwoman, ‫ِﻚ‬َ ‫ َﻣﺘ‬‫ﺍ‬
who is loyal to those who are
loyal to you
almw¡l¢ liwaliyyika َ ‫ِﻮﻟِﱢﻴ‬
‫ﻚ‬ َ ‫ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ َﻮﺍﻟِﻲ ﻟ‬
and enemy of those who are
your enemies—
almu`¡d¢ li`ad£wika ‫ﺎﺩﻱ ﻟَِﻌ ُﺪ ﱢﻭ َﻙ‬
ِ ‫ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ َﻌ‬
am seeking the shelter of
your shrine
istaj¡ra bimashhadika ‫ﺸ َﻬ ِﺪ َﻙ‬
ْ ‫ِﻤ‬
َ ‫ﭐﺳ َﺘ َﺠﺎ َﺭ ﺑ‬

and seeking nearness to
Allah through directing to
wa taqarrba il¡ all¡hi biqa
¥dika
‫َﺼ ِﺪ َﻙ‬

You may then enter the shrine, stop next to the side of the Imam’s head, and say the

َ ‫ِﺇﺑَْﺮﺍﻫ‬

of `Al¢ the well‐pleased. `aliyyin almurta¤¡

‫َﺎﻃ َﻤ َﺔ‬ َ ‫َﻡ َﻋﻠ‬

‫ﭐﻟﺰ ْﻫ َﺮﺍِء‬

‫ﻚ َﻳﺎ ﺑْ َﻦ‬ َ ‫َﻡ َﻋ َﻠ ْﻴ‬

lady. ُ ‫ﻳـﺠ َﺔ ﭐﻟ‬

I bear witness that you ashhadu annaka qad aqamta al¥

‫ َﻗ ْﻤ َﺖ‬‫َﺪ ﺍ‬
ْ‫ﻚ ﻗ‬ َ ‫ﻧﱠ‬‫ﺷ َﻬ ُﺪ ﺍ‬‫ﺍ‬
ْ
performed the prayers, ¥al¡ta
‫َﺓ‬
َ‫ﭐﻟﺼﻼ‬ ‫ﱠ‬
defrayed the poor‐rates, wa ¡tayta alzzak¡ta ‫َﺎﺓ‬
َ ‫ﭐﻟﺰﻛ‬
‫َﻭﺁﺗَ ْﻴ َﺖ ﱠ‬

enjoined the right, wa amarta bilma`r£fi

‫ﻭﻑ‬
ِ ‫ْﻤ ْﻌ ُﺮ‬
َ ‫ َﻣ ْﺮ َﺕ ﺑِﭑﻟ‬‫َﻭﺍ‬

forbade the wrong, wa nahayta `an almunkari ‫َﻭﻧَ َﻬ ْﻴ َﺖ َﻋ ِﻦ ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ ْﻨ َﻜ ِﺮ‬

and obeyed Allah until wa a§a`ta all¡ha ¦att¡ at¡ka

َ َ‫ﺗ‬‫ﱠﻪ َﺣ ﱠﺘ ٰﻰ ﺍ‬
‫ﺎﻙ‬ َ ‫َﻭ‬
َ ‫ﻃ ْﻌ َﺖ ﭐﻟﻠ‬‫ﺍ‬
death came upon you. alyaq¢nu
ُ ‫ﭐﻟَْﻴﻘ‬
‫ِﻴﻦ‬
May Allah curse the people
who slew you.
fala`ana all¡hu ummatan
qatalatka
َ ‫ ﱠﻣ ًﺔ َﻗ َﺘ َﻠ ْﺘ‬‫ﱠﻪ ﺍ‬
‫ﻚ‬ ُ ‫َﻓ َﻠ َﻌ َﻦ ﭐﻟﻠ‬
May Allah curse the people
who wronged you.
wa la`ana all¡hu ummatan

َ ‫َﻤ ْﺘ‬
‫ﻚ‬ َ ‫ ﱠﻣ ًﺔ َﻇﻠ‬‫ﱠﻪ ﺍ‬
ُ ‫َﻭﻟََﻌ َﻦ ﭐﻟﻠ‬
May Allah curse the people ‫ِﻚ‬ ٰ‫ﺖﺑ‬
َ ‫ِﺬﻟ‬ ْ ‫ ﱠﻣ ًﺔ َﺳ ِﻤ َﻌ‬‫ﱠﻪ ﺍ‬
ُ ‫َﻭﻟََﻌ َﻦ ﭐﻟﻠ‬
wa la`ana all¡hu ummatan
who were informed about
sami`at bidh¡lika fara¤iyat bih¢
that but they approved it. ‫ِﻪ‬
ِ‫ﺖ ﺑ‬
ْ ‫َﺮ ِﺿ َﻴ‬
َ‫ﻓ‬
O my master! O Ab£‐
`Abdull¡h!
y¡ mawl¡ya y¡ ab¡ `abdi all¡hi ‫ﱠﻪ‬
ِ ‫ﺑَﺎ َﻋ ْﺒ ِﺪ ﭐﻟﻠ‬‫َﻱ َﻳﺎ ﺍ‬
َ ‫َﻳﺎ َﻣ ْﻮﻻ‬
I call Allah, His angels, ushhidu all¡ha wa mal¡'ikatah£ َ ‫ﻼﺋ‬
‫ِﻜ َﺘ ُﻪ‬ َ ‫ﱠﻪ َﻭ َﻣ‬
َ ‫ﺷ ِﻬ ُﺪ ﭐﻟﻠ‬‫ﺍ‬

His Prophets, and His
Messengers
wa anbiy¡'ah£ wa rusulah£ ‫َﻪ‬
ُ ‫َﻪ َﻭ ُﺭ ُﺳﻠ‬
ُ ‫ﻧِْﺒ َﻴﺎﺋ‬‫َﻭﺍ‬
to witness that I believe in
you and in your Return
ann¢ bikum mu'minun wa
bi'iy¡bikum
ُ ‫ِﻦ َﻭﺑِِﺈَﻳﺎﺑ‬
‫ِﻜ ْﻢ‬ ُ ‫ﻧﱢﻲ ﺑ‬‫ﺍ‬
ٌ ‫ِﻜ ْﻢ ُﻣ ْﺆﻣ‬
and I have faith in the
m£qinun bishar¡yi`i d¢n¢ wa
‫ِﻊ ِﺩﻳﻨِﻲ‬
ِ ‫ِﺸ َﺮﺍﻳ‬
َ ‫ِﻦ ﺑ‬
ٌ ‫ُﻣﻮﻗ‬
laws of my religion and in
khaw¡t¢mi `amal¢
the sealing deeds of mine, ‫ِﻴﻢ َﻋ َﻤﻠِﻲ‬
ِ ‫َﻭ َﺧ َﻮﺍﺗ‬
‫َﻰ َﺭﺑﱢﻲ‬ ٰ ‫َﻭ ُﻣ ْﻨ َﻘ َﻠﺒِﻲ ِﺇﻟ‬
and in my final return to
wa munqalab¢ il¡ rabb¢
my Lord.
Allah’s blessings be upon
you all,
fa¥alaw¡tu all¡hi `alaykum ‫ﱠﻪ َﻋ َﻠ ْﻴ ُﻜ ْﻢ‬
ِ ‫ﺍﺕ ﭐﻟﻠ‬ُ ‫َﻮ‬َ ‫َﺼﻠ‬ َ‫ﻓ‬
upon your souls, upon wa `al¡ arw¡¦ikum wa `al¡ ٰ ‫ﺍﺣ ُﻜ ْﻢ َﻭ َﻋﻠ‬
‫َﻰ‬ ِ ‫ ْﺭ َﻭ‬‫َﻰ ﺍ‬
ٰ ‫َﻭ َﻋﻠ‬
your bodies, ajs¡dikum
‫ُﻢ‬
ْ ‫ﺎﺩﻛ‬ ِ ‫ﺟ َﺴ‬‫ﺍ‬

upon the present and the wa `al¡ sh¡hidikum wa `al¡
‫َﻰ‬
ٰ ‫ُﻢ َﻭ َﻋﻠ‬
ْ ‫ِﺪﻛ‬
ِ ‫َﻰ َﺷﺎﻫ‬

‫ِﻜ ْﻢ‬ ِ َ‫ُﻢ َﻭﺑ‬ ِ ‫َﻭ َﻇﺎﻫ‬
ْ ‫ِﺮﻛ‬
affairs).

Peace be upon you, O son alssal¡mu `alayka yabna

َ ‫َﻡ َﻋ َﻠ ْﻴ‬
‫ﻚ َﻳﺎ ﺑْ َﻦ َﺧﺎَﺗ ِﻢ‬ ُ ‫َﻟﺴﻼ‬
‫ﺍ ﱠ‬
of the Seal of Prophets, kh¡tami alnnabiyy¢na
‫ﻴﻦ‬َ ‫ﭐﻟ ﱠﻨ ِﺒ ﱢﻴ‬
son of the chief of the
Prophets’ successors,
wabna sayyidi alwa¥iyy¢na ‫ﻴﻦ‬
َ ‫ْﻮ ِﺻ ﱢﻴ‬
َ ‫َﻭﭐﺑْ َﻦ َﺳ ﱢﻴ ِﺪ ﭐﻟ‬
son of the leader of the
pious,
wabna im¡mi almuttaq¢na َ ‫ﺎﻡ ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ ﱠﺘﻘ‬
‫ِﻴﻦ‬ ِ ‫َﻭﭐﺑْ َﻦ ِﺇ َﻣ‬

and son of the white‐

َ ‫ِﺪ ﭐﻟُْﻐ ﱢﺮ ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ َﺤ ﱠﺠﻠ‬
‫ِﻴﻦ‬ ِ ‫َﻭﭐﺑْ َﻦ ﻗَﺎﺋ‬
wabna q¡'idi alghurri almu¦ajjal
forehead, marked
believers.
¢na il¡ jann¡ti alnna`¢mi ‫ِﻴﻢ‬
ِ ‫ﺎﺕ ﭐﻟ ﱠﻨﻌ‬
ِ ‫َﻰ َﺟ ﱠﻨ‬
ٰ ‫ِﺇﻟ‬
How can that you be
anything other than this
wa kayfa l¡ tak£nu kadh¡lika ‫ِﻚ‬ ٰ ‫ﻮﻥ ﻛ‬
َ ‫َﺬﻟ‬ ُ ‫َﻭ َﻛ ْﻴ َﻒ َﻻ ﺗَ ُﻜ‬
while you are the door to
the true guidance,
wa anta b¡bu alhud¡ ‫ﺎﺏ ﭐﻟْ ُﻬ َﺪ ٰﻯ‬
ُ َ‫ﻧْ َﺖ ﺑ‬‫َﻭﺍ‬
the guide to piety, wa im¡mu alttuq¡ ‫َﻰ‬ٰ ‫ﺎﻡ ﭐﻟ ﱡﺘﻘ‬ ُ ‫َﻭِﺇ َﻣ‬
the firmest handle, wal`urwatu alwuthq¡ ٰ ‫ْﻮﺛْﻘ‬
‫َﻰ‬ ُ ‫َﻭﭐﻟُْﻌ ْﺮ َﻭ ُﺓ ﭐﻟ‬
‫ﭐﻟﺪﻧَْﻴﺎ‬ ٰ ‫ْﺤ ﱠﺠ ُﺔ َﻋﻠ‬
‫ ْﻫ ِﻞ ﱡ‬‫َﻰ ﺍ‬ ُ ‫َﻭﭐﻟ‬
the argument against the
wal¦ujjatu `al¡ ahli aldduny¡
inhabitants of this world,
and the fifth of the People
of the Cloak.
wa kh¡misu a¥¦¡bi alkis¡'i ‫ْﻜ َﺴﺎِء‬
ِ ‫ﺎﺏ ﭐﻟ‬
ِ ‫ﺻ َﺤ‬‫ﺍ‬
ْ ‫ِﺲ‬ُ ‫َﻭ َﺧﺎﻣ‬
You were nourished by the
hand of mercy,
ghadhdhatka yadu alrra¦mati ‫ﭐﻟﺮ ْﺣ َﻤ ِﺔ‬ َ ْ‫َﺬﺗ‬
‫ﻚ َﻳ ُﺪ ﱠ‬ ‫ﻏﱠ‬
breast‐fed by the bosom of
faith,
wa ra¤a`ta min thadyi al‐¢m¡ni ‫ﺎﻥ‬
ِ ‫ِﻳـﻤ‬
َ ‫َﺪ ِﻱ ﭐﻹ‬
ْ ‫ِﻦ ﺛ‬
ْ ‫َﻭ َﺭ َﺿ ْﻌ َﺖ ﻣ‬
and brought up in the lap
of Islam.
wa rubb¢ta f¢ ¦ijri al‐islami ‫َﻡ‬
ِ ‫ِﺳﻼ‬
ْ ‫ﻴﺖ ﻓِﻲ ِﺣ ْﺠ ِﺮ ﭐﻹ‬
َ ‫َﻭ ُﺭﺑﱢ‬
So, my soul is definitely
displeased by the way you
falnnafsu ghayru r¡¤iyatin
bifir¡qika
َ ‫ِﺮﺍﻗ‬
‫ِﻚ‬ ِ ‫ْﺲ َﻏ ْﻴ ُﺮ َﺭ‬
َ ‫ﺍﺿ َﻴ ٍﺔ ﺑِﻔ‬ ُ ‫ﻓَﭑﻟ ﱠﻨﻔ‬
left this world
and it has no doubt that
you are alive.
wa la sh¡kkatin f¢ ¦ay¡tika َ ‫ﱠﺔ ﻓِﻲ َﺣ َﻴﺎﺗ‬
‫ِﻚ‬ ٍ ‫َﻭ َﻻ َﺷﺎﻛ‬
Allah’s blessings be upon

your ascendants, and your
descendants.

‫ﻚ‬ ْ ‫ ﱠﻣ ًﺔ‬‫ﱠﻪ ﺍ‬
ْ ‫ﭐﺳ َﺘ َﺤﻠ‬ ُ ‫ﻟََﻌ َﻦ ﭐﻟﻠ‬
who violated your
ista¦allat minka alma¦¡rima
sanctities ‫ِﻡ‬
َ ‫ْﻤ َﺤﺎﺭ‬ َ ‫ﭐﻟ‬
and infringed the holiness wantahakat f¢ka ¦urmata al‐
‫ِﻴﻚ ُﺣﺮ َﻣ َﺔ‬
َ ‫ﺖﻓ‬ْ ‫َﻭﭐﻧَْﺘ َﻬ َﻜ‬
of Islam. isl¡mi
‫َﻡ‬
ِ ‫ِﺳﻼ‬
ْ ‫ﭐﻹ‬
So, you—may Allah’s َ ‫ﱠﻪ َﻋ َﻠ ْﻴ‬
‫ﻚ‬ ُ ‫ﱠﻰ ﭐﻟﻠ‬ َ ‫َﻓ ُﻘ ِﺘﻠ‬
ٰ ‫ْﺖ َﺻﻠ‬
blessings be upon you— faqutilta ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayka
were killed overwhelmed, maqh£ran ‫َﻣ ْﻘ ُﻬﻮﺭﴽ‬
the Messenger of Allah,
Allah’s blessings be upon wa a¥ba¦a ras£lu all¡hi ¥all¡ ‫ﱠﻰ‬
ٰ ‫ﱠﻪ َﺻﻠ‬ ُ ‫ﺻ َﺒ َﺢ َﺭ ُﺳ‬‫ﺍ‬
ِ ‫ﻮﻝ ﭐﻟﻠ‬ ْ ‫َﻭ‬
him and his Household, all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lih¢ bika
became cut off because of mawt£ran ‫ِﻚ َﻣ ْﻮﺗُﻮﺭﴽ‬َ ‫ِﻪ ﺑ‬
ِ ‫ﱠﻪ َﻋ َﻠ ْﻴ ِﻪ َﻭﺁﻟ‬
ُ ‫ﭐﻟﻠ‬
loss of you,

and the Book of Allah

wa a¥ba¦a kit¡bu all¡hi
‫ْﺪ َﻙ‬
ِ ‫ﱠﻪ ﺑِ َﻔﻘ‬
ِ ‫ﺎﺏ ﭐﻟﻠ‬
ُ ‫ﺻ َﺒ َﺢ ِﻛ َﺘ‬‫ﺍ‬
ْ ‫َﻭ‬
became deserted due to
bifaqdika mahj£ran
losing you. ‫َﻣ ْﻬ ُﺠﻮﺭﴽ‬
Peace be upon you, your alssal¡mu `alayka wa `al¡
‫َﻰ َﺟ ﱢﺪ َﻙ‬ َ ‫َﻡ َﻋ َﻠ ْﻴ‬
ٰ ‫ﻚ َﻭ َﻋﻠ‬ ُ ‫َﻟﺴﻼ‬
‫ﺍ ﱠ‬
grandfather, your father, jaddika wa ab¢ka
َ ‫ﺑ‬‫َﻭﺍ‬
‫ِﻴﻚ‬
your mother, your brother, wa ummika wa akh¢ka َ ‫ﺧ‬‫ﺍ‬
‫ﻴﻚ‬ َ ‫ ﱢﻣ‬‫َﻭﺍ‬
ِ ‫ﻚ َﻭ‬
the Imams from your
descendants,
wa `al¡ al‐a'immati min ban¢ka َ ‫ِﻦ ﺑَﻨ‬
‫ِﻴﻚ‬ ْ ‫ِﻤ ِﺔ ﻣ‬
‫ﺋ ﱠ‬‫َﻰ ﭐﻻ‬
ٰ ‫َﻭ َﻋﻠ‬
those who were martyred
with you,
wa `al¡ almustashhad¢na
ma`aka
َ ‫ﻳﻦ َﻣ َﻌ‬
‫ﻚ‬ َ ‫ﺸ َﻬ ِﺪ‬ ْ ‫َﻰ ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ‬
ْ ‫ﺴ َﺘ‬ ٰ ‫َﻭ َﻋﻠ‬
and the angels who are wa `al¡ almal¡'ikati al¦¡ff¢na
‫ﱢﻴﻦ‬
َ ‫ْﺤﺎﻓ‬ َ ‫ﻼﺋ‬
َ ‫ِﻜ ِﺔ ﭐﻟ‬ َ ‫ْﻤ‬
َ ‫َﻰ ﭐﻟ‬
ٰ ‫َﻭ َﻋﻠ‬
surrounding your tomb, biqabrika
‫ﺑِ َﻘ ْﺒ ِﺮ َﻙ‬
witnessing for your
visitors,
walshsh¡hid¢na lizuww¡rika َ ‫ِﺰ ﱠﻭﺍﺭ‬
‫ِﻙ‬ ُ ‫ﻳﻦ ﻟ‬
َ ‫ِﺪ‬
ِ ‫ﭐﻟﺸﺎﻫ‬
‫َﻭ ﱠ‬
and praying for the
almu'min¢na bilqab£li `al¡
‫َﻰ ُﺩ َﻋﺎِء‬ ِ ‫ِﻴﻦ ﺑِﭑﻟَْﻘ ُﺒ‬
ٰ ‫ﻮﻝ َﻋﻠ‬ َ ‫ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ ْﺆ ِﻣﻨ‬
acceptance of the prayers
du`¡'i sh¢`atika
of your adherents. َ ‫ِﺷﻴ َﻌﺘ‬
‫ِﻚ‬
Peace and Allah’s mercy
walssalamu `alayka wa ra¦matu
ِ ‫ﻚ َﻭ َﺭ ْﺣ َﻤ ُﺔ ﭐﻟﻠ‬
‫ﱠﻪ‬ َ ‫َﻡ َﻋ َﻠ ْﻴ‬
ُ ‫ﭐﻟﺴﻼ‬

and blessings be upon
all¡hi wa barak¡tuh£

May my father and mother
bi'ab¢ anta wa umm¢ y¡ ab¡
‫ﺑَﺎ َﻋ ْﺒ ِﺪ‬‫ ﱢﻣﻲ َﻳﺎ ﺍ‬‫ﻧْ َﺖ َﻭﺍ‬‫ﺑِﻲ ﺍ‬‫ﺑِﺎ‬
be ransoms for you, O Ab
`abdi all¡hi
£‐`Abdull¡h. ‫ﱠﻪ‬
ِ ‫ﭐﻟﻠ‬
So unbearable is the
misfortune
laqad `a¨umat alrraziyyatu ‫ﭐﻟﺮ ِﺯﱠﻳ ُﺔ‬
‫َﺪ َﻋ ُﻈ َﻤ ِﺖ ﱠ‬
ْ ‫ﻟَﻘ‬
and so horrendous is the
calamity of you
wa jallat almu¥¢batu bika َ ‫ﱠﺖ ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ ِﺼﻴ َﺒ ُﺔ ﺑ‬
‫ِﻚ‬ ِ ‫َﻭ َﺟﻠ‬
for us and for all the `alayn¡ wa `al¡ jam¢`i ahli
‫ ْﻫ ِﻞ‬‫ﻴﻊ ﺍ‬ ٰ ‫َﻋ َﻠ ْﻴ َﻨﺎ َﻭ َﻋﻠ‬
ِ ‫َﻰ َﺟ ِﻤ‬
inhabitants of the heavens alssam¡w¡ti wal‐ar¤i
and the earth. ‫ﺽ‬
ِ ‫ ْﺭ‬‫ﺍﺕ َﻭﭐﻻ‬
ِ ‫ﭐﻟﺴ َﻤﺎ َﻭ‬
‫ﱠ‬
May Allah curse the people
fala`ana all¡hu ummatan
‫ﺖ‬ ْ ‫ ﱠﻣ ًﺔ‬‫ﱠﻪ ﺍ‬
ْ ‫ﺳ َﺮ َﺟ‬‫ﺍ‬ ُ ‫َﻓ َﻠ َﻌ َﻦ ﭐﻟﻠ‬
who put saddles and reins
asrajat wa aljamat
on their animals ‫ﺖ‬
ْ ‫ْﺠ َﻤ‬
َ ‫ﻟ‬‫َﻭﺍ‬
and readied themselves

I have directed to your
sanctuary
qa¥adtu ¦aramaka َ ‫َﺼ ْﺪ ُﺕ َﺣ َﺮ َﻣ‬

and I have come to your
shrine
wa ataytu mashhadaka ‫ﺸ َﻬ َﺪ َﻙ‬

asking Almighty Allah in
as'alu all¡ha bilshsha'ni alladh¢

position that you occupy

your group in this world
aldduny¡ wal‐¡khirati
and in the Hereafter, ‫ﭐﻵﺧ َﺮِﺓ‬
ِ ‫ﭐﻟﺪﻧَْﻴﺎ َﻭ‬

out of His favor,
magnanimity, and bimannih¢ wa j£dih¢ wa karamih¢ ‫ِﻪ‬
ِ ‫َﺮﻣ‬
َ ‫ﻮﺩِﻩ َﻭﻛ‬
ِ ‫ِﻤ ﱢﻨ ِﻪ َﻭ ُﺟ‬
َ‫ﺑ‬
generosity.

 You may then kiss the tomb and offer a two‐unit prayer in which you may recite any

‫ﺖ‬ ُ ‫ﺍَﻟ ﱠﻠ ُﻬ ﱠﻢ ِﺇﻧﱢﻲ َﺻ ﱠﻠ ْﻴ‬
prayer, genuflected, and
raka`tu wa sajadtu
prostrated myself ‫َﻭ َﺳ َﺠ ْﺪ ُﺕ‬
for Your sake purely without
setting any partner with You,
laka wa¦daka l¡ shar¢ka laka ‫َﻚ‬ َ ‫َﻚ َﻭ ْﺣ َﺪ َﻙ َﻻ َﺷ ِﺮ‬
َ ‫ﻳﻚ ﻟ‬ َ‫ﻟ‬
since all prayers,
li'anna al¥¥al¡ta walrruk£`a
‫ُﻮﻉ‬
َ ‫ﭐﻟﺮﻛ‬
‫َﺓ َﻭ ﱡ‬َ‫ﭐﻟﺼﻼ‬‫ﻥ ﱠ‬‫ﻻِ ﱠ‬
genuflections, and
walssuj£da
prostrations ‫ﻮﺩ‬
َ ‫ﭐﻟﺴ ُﺠ‬
‫َﻭ ﱡ‬
suit none except You. l¡ tak£nu ill¡ laka ‫َﻚ‬ ُ ‫َﻻ ﺗَ ُﻜ‬
َ ‫ﻮﻥ ِﺇ ﱠﻻ ﻟ‬

Because You are Allah; there li'annaka anta all¡hu l¡ il¡ha ill¡
‫ﱠﻪ َﻻ ِﺇ ٰﻟ َﻪ ِﺇ ﱠﻻ‬ َ ‫ﻧﱠ‬ِ‫ﻻ‬

anticipate and hope from
waliyyika
You and from Your saint. َ ‫َﻭﻓِﻲ َﻭﻟِﱢﻴ‬

O most merciful of all those
who show mercy!

َ ‫ﺍﺣ ِﻤ‬

You may then turn to the side of the Imam’s feet and visit `Al¢ ibn al‐°usayn (`a)
whose head is at the side of Imam al‐°usayn’s feet, and say these words:

and so horrendous is the

calamity of you
wa jallat alrraziyyatu bika َ ‫ﭐﻟﺮ ِﺯﻳﱠ ُﺔ ﺑ‬
‫ِﻚ‬ ‫ﱠﺖ ﱠ‬ِ ‫َﻭ َﺟﻠ‬

for us and for all faithful `alayn¡ wa `al¡ jam¢`i

‫ﻴﻊ‬ ٰ ‫َﻋ َﻠ ْﻴ َﻨﺎ َﻭ َﻋﻠ‬
ِ ‫َﻰ َﺟ ِﻤ‬

May Allah curse the people

I release myself in the
presence of Allah and you wa abra'u il¡ all¡hi wa ilayka
َ ‫ﱠﻪ َﻭِﺇﻟَ ْﻴ‬
‫ﻚ ِﻣ ْﻨ ُﻬ ْﻢ‬ ِ ‫َﻰ ﭐﻟﻠ‬
ٰ ‫ ِﺇﻟ‬‫ﺑَْﺮﺍ‬‫َﻭﺍ‬
from these people in this minhum f¢ aldduny¡ wal‐¡khirati
world and in the Hereafter. ‫ﭐﻵﺧ َﺮِﺓ‬ِ ‫ﭐﻟﺪﻧَْﻴﺎ َﻭ‬‫ﻓِﻲ ﱡ‬
You may then turn your face to the martyrs and visit them with the following words:

bi'ab¢ antum wa umm¢ ‫ ﱢﻣﻲ‬‫ﻧُْﺘ ْﻢ َﻭﺍ‬‫ﺑِﻲ ﺍ‬‫ﺑِﺎ‬
Pure are you, and pure is the
§ibtum wa §¡bat al‐ar¤u allat¢ f
‫ﺽ ﭐﻟﱠﺘِﻲ‬
ُ ‫ ْﺭ‬‫ِﻃ ْﺒ ُﺘ ْﻢ َﻭ َﻃﺎﺑَ ِﺖ ﭐﻻ‬
soil in which you were
¢h¡ dufintum
buried. ‫ِﻴﻬﺎ ُﺩ ِﻓ ْﻨ ُﺘ ْﻢ‬
َ ‫ﻓ‬
And, by Allah, great is your
triumph.
wa fuztum wall¡hi fawz¡n `a¨
¢man
‫َﻮﺯﴽ َﻋ ِﻈﻴﻤﴼ‬ ْ ‫ﱠﻪ ﻓ‬
ِ ‫ُﺰﺗُ ْﻢ َﻭﭐﻟﻠ‬ ْ ‫َﻭﻓ‬
I wish I were with you so
y¡ laytan¢ kuntu ma`akum fa'af
‫ﻓُﻮ َﺯ‬‫ﺖ َﻣ َﻌ ُﻜ ْﻢ ﻓَﺎ‬ ُ ‫َﻳﺎ ﻟَ ْﻴ َﺘﻨِﻲ ُﻛ ْﻨ‬
that I would have won with
£za ma`akum
you ‫َﻣ َﻌ ُﻜ ْﻢ‬
in the gardens of Paradise
f¢ aljin¡ni ma`a alshshuhad¡'i
‫ﭐﻟﺸ َﻬ َﺪﺍِء‬
‫ﺎﻥ َﻣ َﻊ ﱡ‬
ِ ‫ْﺠ َﻨ‬
ِ ‫ﻓِﻲ ﭐﻟ‬
with the martyrs and the
wal¥¥¡li¦¢na
righteous. ‫ِﺤﻴﻦ‬
َ ‫ﭐﻟﺼﺎﻟ‬ ‫َﻭ ﱠ‬
Excellent is the
companionship of these.

‫ِﻚ َﺭﻓِﻴﻘﴼ‬ ُ ‫َﻭ َﺣ‬
Peace and Allah’s mercy and walssal¡mu `alaykum wa
ِ ‫َﻡ َﻋ َﻠ ْﻴ ُﻜ ْﻢ َﻭ َﺭ ْﺣ َﻤ ُﺔ ﭐﻟﻠ‬

blessings be upon you all. ra¦matu all¡hi wa barak¡tuh£
‫َﻭﺑَ َﺮﻛَﺎﺗُ ُﻪ‬
You may then return to the side of Imam al‐°usayn’s head and pray as frequently as
possible for yourself, your family members, and your brethren‐in‐faith.

Sayyid Ibn ±¡w£s and al‐Shah¢d added the following:You may then walk to the shrine
of al‐`Abb¡s, may Allah be pleased with him. When you reach there, you may stop at
the tomb and say the following words:

I bear witness that you
have acted sincerely for
ashhadu laqad na¥a¦ta lill¡hi wa
‫ﱠﻪ‬ ْ ‫ﺷ َﻬ ُﺪ ﻟَﻘ‬‫ﺍ‬
ِ ‫َﺪ ﻧَ َﺼ ْﺤ َﺖ ﻟِﻠ‬ ْ
the sake of Allah, His
liras£lih¢ wa li'akh¢ka
Messenger, and your َ ‫ﺧ‬
‫ﻴﻚ‬ ِ ِ‫ِﻪ َﻭﻻ‬
ِ ‫ِﺮ ُﺳﻮﻟ‬
َ ‫َﻭﻟ‬

May Allah curse the
people who slew you.

and infringed the
wantahakat f¢ qatlika ¦urmata
‫ِﻚ ُﺣ ْﺮ َﻣ َﺔ‬
َ ‫ﺖ ﻓِﻲ َﻗ ْﺘﻠ‬
ْ ‫َﻭﭐﻧَْﺘ َﻬ َﻜ‬
holiness of Islam when
al‐isl¡mi
they killed you. ‫َﻡ‬

ْ ‫ﭐﻹ‬
Most excellent steadfast,
striver brother,
fani`ma al‐akhu al¥¥¡biru
almuj¡hidu ُ ‫ِﺮ ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ َﺠﺎﻫ‬
‫ِﺪ‬ ُ ‫ﭐﻟﺼﺎﺑ‬
‫ﺥ ﱠ‬‫ﭐﻻ‬ُ ‫َﻓ ِﻨ ْﻌ َﻢ‬
defender, supporter, almu¦¡m¢ alnn¡¥iru ِ ‫ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ َﺤﺎﻣِﻲ ﭐﻟ ﱠﻨ‬
‫ﺎﺻ ُﺮ‬
one who stood up for his
brother,
wal‐akhu aldd¡fi`u `an akh¢hi ‫ﻴﻪ‬
ِ ‫ﺧ‬‫ﺍ‬
ِ ‫ِﻊ َﻋ ْﻦ‬
ُ ‫ﭐﻟﺪﺍﻓ‬
‫ﺥ ﱠ‬‫ﭐﻻ‬
ُ ‫َﻭ‬
one who responded to
the obedience to his almuj¢bu il¡ §¡`ati rabbih¢ ‫َﻰ َﻃﺎ َﻋ ِﺔ َﺭﺑﱢِﻪ‬ ُ ‫ﭐﻟْ ُﻤ ِﺠ‬
ٰ ‫ﻴﺐ ِﺇﻟ‬
Lord,
and one who desired for
what others deemed
alrr¡ghibu f¢m¡ zahida f¢hi
ghayruh£
‫ﻓﻴﻪ َﻏ ْﻴ ُﺮ ُﻩ‬
ِ ‫ِﺪ‬َ ‫ِﻴﻤﺎ َﺯﻫ‬
َ ‫ِﺐ ﻓ‬
ُ ‫ﭐﻟﺮﺍﻏ‬

unworthy;

namely, the abundant

reward and the excellent
walththan¡'i aljam¢li

May Allah attach you to

your intimate servants, wa liziy¡rati awliy¡'ika qa¥adtu ‫َﺼ ْﺪ ُﺕ‬ َ ‫ ْﻭﻟِﻴﺎﺋ‬‫ِﺰَﻳﺎ َﺭِﺓ ﺍ‬
َ ‫ِﻚ ﻗ‬ ِ ‫َﻭﻟ‬
for I desire for gaining Your
reward raghbatan f¢ thaw¡bika َ ‫َﻮﺍﺑ‬
‫ِﻚ‬ َ ‫َﺭ ْﻏ َﺒ ًﺔ ﻓِﻲ ﺛ‬
and I hope for Your
forgiveness wa raj¡'an limaghfiratika َ ‫ِﺮﺗ‬
‫ِﻚ‬ َ ‫ِﻤ ْﻐﻔ‬
َ ‫َﻭ َﺭ َﺟﺎًء ﻟ‬
and abundant benevolence. wa jaz¢li i¦s¡nika َ ‫ِﺣ َﺴﺎﻧ‬
‫ِﻚ‬ ْ ‫ﻳﻞ ﺇ‬
ِ ‫َﻭ َﺟ ِﺰ‬
So, I beseech You to send
blessings upon Mu¦ammad fa'as'aluka an tu¥alliya `al¡ ‫َﻰ‬
ٰ ‫ﱢﻲ َﻋﻠ‬
َ ‫ﻥ ﺗُ َﺼﻠ‬‫ﺍ‬ْ ‫ُﻚ‬َ ‫ﻟ‬‫ﺳﺎ‬‫َﺎ‬

and the Household of mu¦ammadin wa ¡li
Mu¦ammad, mu¦ammadin ‫ﺁﻝ ُﻣ َﺤ ﱠﻤ ٍﺪ‬
ِ ‫ُﻣ َﺤ ﱠﻤ ٍﺪ َﻭ‬
and, (I beseech You) in
their names, to make my wa an taj`ala rizq¢ bihim d¡rran ِ ‫ﻥ ﺗَ ْﺠ َﻌ َﻞ ِﺭ ْﺯﻗِﻲ ﺑ‬‫ﺍ‬
‫ِﻬ ْﻢ َﺩﺍ ّﺭﴽ‬ ْ ‫َﻭ‬
sustenance unstoppable,

my life peaceful, wa `aysh¢ bihim q¡rran ‫ِﻬ ْﻢ ﻗﺎ ّﺭﴽ‬

ِ ‫َﻭ َﻋ ْﻴ ِﺸﻲ ﺑ‬
my pilgrimage admissible, wa ziy¡rat¢ bihim maqb£latan ً ‫ِﻬ ْﻢ َﻣ ْﻘ ُﺒﻮﻟ‬
‫َﺔ‬ ِ ‫َﻭ ِﺯَﻳﺎ َﺭﺗِﻲ ﺑ‬
my life serene, wa ¦ay¡t¢ bihim §ayyibatan ‫ِﻬ ْﻢ َﻃ ﱢﻴ َﺒ ًﺔ‬
ِ ‫َﻭ َﺣ َﻴﺎﺗِﻲ ﺑ‬
and my sins forgiven. wa dhanb¢ bihim maghf£ran ِ ‫َﻭ َﺫﻧْﺒِﻲ ﺑ‬
‫ِﻬ ْﻢ َﻣ ْﻐﻔُﻮﺭﴽ‬
And (I beseech You to)
make me return from them
with success and
waqlibn¢ bihim mufli¦an
munji¦an
ِ ‫َﻭﭐﻗْ ِﻠ ْﺒﻨِﻲ ﺑ‬
‫ِﻬ ْﻢ ُﻣ ْﻔﻠِﺤﴼ ُﻣ ْﻨ ِﺠﺤﴼ‬
prosperity,

having my prayers granted, mustaj¡ban du`¡'¢ ‫ﺴ َﺘ َﺠﺎﺑﴼ ُﺩ َﻋﺎﺋِﻲ‬

ْ ‫ُﻣ‬
with the best things with
which any one
bi'af¤ali m¡ yanqalibu bih¢
a¦adun
‫ﺣ ٌﺪ‬‫ﺍ‬َ ‫ِﻪ‬ ِ ‫ِﺐ ﺑ‬
ُ ‫ْﻀ ِﻞ َﻣﺎ ﻳَ ْﻨ َﻘﻠ‬َ ‫ﻓ‬‫ﺑِﺎ‬
of his visitors and comers
may return; min zuww¡rih¢ walq¡¥id¢na ilayhi ‫ﻳﻦ ِﺇﻟَ ْﻴ ِﻪ‬ ِ ‫ِﻩ َﻭﭐﻟْﻘ‬
َ ‫َﺎﺻ ِﺪ‬ ِ‫ِﻦ ُﺯ ﱠﻭﺍﺭ‬
ْ‫ﻣ‬
in the name of Your mercy,
bira¦matika y¡ ar¦ama alrr¡¦im
َ ‫ِﺮ ْﺣ َﻤﺘ‬
‫ ْﺭ َﺣ َﻢ‬‫ِـﻚ َﻳﺎ ﺍ‬ َ‫ﺑ‬
O most merciful of all those

who show mercy. ‫ﻤﻴﻦ‬

You may then kiss the tomb and offer there the prayer of ziy¡rah as well as any
other prayer you wish to offer. When you intend to bid farewell to him, you may say
the words that have been previously cited at bidding farewell. These words begin
with the following statement:

Peace and Allah’s mercy and alssal¡mu `alayka wa ra¦matu

ِ ‫ﻚ َﻭ َﺭ ْﺣ َﻤ ُﺔ ﭐﻟﻠ‬
