Anurag Kumar obtained his B.Tech. degree in electrical engineering from the Indian
Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1977, and his Ph.D. degree from Cornell University in
1981. He worked at Bell Labs in the US before joining as faculty at the Indian Institute of
Science. His main research area used to be TCP/IP, but now he has moved into wireless
networking focusing on sensor networks.
From 1989 to 2001, he coordinated the project ERNET for networking the major
education and research institutions in India. This project was instrumental in bringing
network connectivity to Indian students and researchers in the late 1980s and early
1990s.
He has been an elected Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering since
1999[1] and an elected Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy since 2006.[2] He
is also a fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences from 2010. As of 1 January 2006, Anurag
Kumar is an elected Fellow of the IEEE.[3]
