The word 'history' is basically made up of two words:'his' and 'story'.

'His' refers to the people of old

times and history is the study of past.It is derived from Greek word ἱστορία, historia, meaning "inquiry,
knowledge acquired by investigation") History is kind of a story or recollection of past.

History is the study of the human past as it is described in the written documents
left by human beings. The past, with all its decisions completed, its participants
dead and its history told, is what the general public perceives as the immutable
bedrock on which we historians and archaeologists stand. But as purveyors of the
past, we recognize that the bedrock is really quicksand, that bits of the story are
yet untold, and that what has been told comes tainted by the conditions of what
we are today. That's my opinion, of course—here are a collection of others.

Historiography, the writing of history, especially the writing of history based

on the critical examination of sources, the selection of particular details from
the authentic materials in those sources, and the synthesis of those details
into a narrative that stands the test of critical examination. The term
historiography also refers to the theory and history of historical writing.
History is important in that it reveals all of the past. It is there for you to study and learn from so
that the future can be improved upon. "A people who do not know their history are fated to
repeat it." It is important because history helps you understand the past to predict the future
and help in creating it.

History Helps Us Understand Change and How the Society We Live in Came to Be The second
reason history is inescapable as a subject of serious study follows closely on the first. The past
causes the present, and so the future.

What is a Primary Source

Primary sources include documents or artifacts created by a witness to or participant in an event. They can be
firsthand testimony or evidence created during the time period that you are studying.
Primary sources may include diaries, letters, interviews, oral histories, photographs, newspaper articles,
government documents, poems, novels, plays, and music. The collection and analysis of primary sources is central
to historical research.
What is a Secondary Source
Secondary sources analyze a scholarly question and often use primary sources as evidence.

Secondary sources include books and articles about a topic. They may include lists of sources, i.e. bibliographies,
that may lead you to other primary or secondary sources.
Databases help you identify articles in scholarly journals or books on a particular topic.
