Problem Statement: Water Efficient Air Cooler

An average desert cooler consumes 50-60 liters of water in a day’s use, which is very critical for dry
& arid regions, facing water scarcity. An effective principal design of a cooler can be innovated to
reduce the use of water by at-least 50%, without impacting the cooling efficiency. This will have
huge positive impact on saving of water and reduction in overall weight & size of cooler body.

Solution to the Given Problem Statement:

As for the less consumption of the water in desert cooler, our team is providing with the innovation
which is based on recirculation of water with turbo coolant in copper condensing tubes. The water
enters through the storage tank where the mixture of water and turbo coolant having ratio 1:3 which
means 1 part of turbo coolant is mixed with 3 parts of the water in fixed proportion. As the turbo
coolant helps to maintain the temperature of the water and also acts a catalyst for rapid cooling of
water. This is a closed loop system. A Peltier module is used, which is connected to supply and in
mean time it help the mixture increase the cooling to 29℃ 𝑡𝑜 − 50℃, placed between the storage
tank .The working of Peltier Module is to increase the cooling rate of the mixture of water and turbo
coolant. As the turbo coolant, which we are using is anti-freezing which means it will not freeze
easily. When the mixture is passed through the copper condensing tubes, it gets cooled. An induced
exhaust fan attached to the AC motor is used to create forced draught to pass the air through cooler
frame towards cooling area. Arduino Uno R3 is used to control the electric devices like Peltier
Module, temperature sensor, regulator, LCD, cut off system and also humidity is controlled by it.
The structure of cooler contains several fins which help to maintain air flow which will further help
to concentrate the area of cooling. A two-way centrifugal pump is used to recirculate the mixture to
the storage tank. Water is reused so this will act as a boon towards water scarcity issue and a water
level indicator is used to monitor the water level which will prevent overflow. We are using a LCD
display which will monitor the temperature as well as it has a cutoff system such that the required
level of cooling effect can be achieved as per the user’s requirement. The whole process is repeatedly
works in a cycle.

Scale of the effect:
In water scar area, desert cooler help to overcome the excessive use of water with efficient cooling
effect. It requires less supervision because it is controlled by microcontroller which maintains the
temperature as per requirement.

User Experience:
 It reduces the frequent usage of water.
 It decreases the humidity effect while cooling.
 Highly efficient as compare to normal coolers.
 It minimizes the cooling gap between the minimum cooling of air conditioning to the
maximum cooling of normal cooler.
