– Simulation Mode Probes

Objective: This is to make the simulation of the complete system, automation and drive. We
have to divide this simulation stuff in two chapters, simulation configuration and knowledge and
the file simulation probes. This chapter is dedicated to the probes.

We have to use the complete user mill panel to operate the different modes.

1. Normal Mode.

We put the first selector in Local and the second selector in Normal Mode (position 1).
Here we will give a set point in positive direction first. Check the limit of the maximum speed.
We can check the answer of the system, also has to go to the maximum speed.
It’s important in this mode to see the values of the maximum and minimum speed, check the set
points and mode selected in the dcc COPLC, PZD’s receiving from PLC.

Then we can switch off the mill and turn in the other direction.

Like we see in the picture, the speed actual value has a -12.28rpm value, which is equal to the
one of the reference. You can check the signal of direction command receive from PLC.

2. Inching Mode.

We put the first selector in Local and the second selector in Inching Mode (position 3).
Here we will give a set point of 2rpm constant, but we will receive an angle inching set point as
well. The probe consist in move the motor, depending of the number of bolts that we select in the
mill operator panel.
You have to check how much the value of the angle for 1 bolt is. For our case we receive a 5.5
set point of inching angle for 1 bolt. We can check that putting the set point in 1 bolt and
checking the set point value from PLC.

For 20 bolts we got the next picture. We made this probe many times.

We can know in how many revolutions the motor will give depending of the number of bolts.
For 20 bolts, we got an angle of (5.5º) * (20) = 110º.
Now calculating:
360º ---------- 1 rev
110º ---------- X rev = 0.3055 rev

So we can say that after give the “on command” in the inching mode with 20 bolts set point, the
motor will stars to run with 2 rpm after arrive to 0.3055 revolution to be stop alone. You must
not press Stop button.

Now probing with 0 bolts set point, we have a special set point (maximum set point).
With 0 bolts, we receive a set point of 7200º.

Now calculating:
360º ---------- 1 rev
7200º --------- X rev = 20 rev
We have to run 20 revolutions at 2 rpm fixed set point. So we can determine that we will be
running for 10 minutes, before the motor stops.

We can see that the period of running, at 0 bolts set point, was 10 minutes approximately.

3. Creeping Mode.

We put the first selector in Local and the second selector in creeping Mode (position 4).
For this mode we will use a handle box to command the mill.
For this mode we will give a fixed set point of 0.3rpm, it’s commonly use in maintenance, giving
a fine adjust.
This mode always operates together with the brake (operation without brake is disable in dcc).

The operation of the brake we simulate with an small breaker, this must be synchronize with the
commands to open and close brake, which are released by the D445.
We can check the values of the command to the brake and the feedbacks of this in the picture
before.

4. Balancing Mode.

We put the first selector in Local and the second selector in balancing Mode (position 2).
This mode is just possible to do it, after the inching (when is with brake) or creeping mode, not
after the normal mode, because there isn’t use of the brake in that mode.
This mode is to make the material go down, because in the creeping mode, the brake can hold the
material in a certain position which will make very difficult to start up (it will increase the
torque).
The operation of this mode is doing by the on command, nothing else.

NOTES
- The operation with or without brake for the inching mode is selected in PLC.
- The operation with or without brake for the creeping mode is selected by us (in the actual
software the operation without brake for this mode is disable).
- This probe is the principal document given it to customer to establish the functionality of the
drive.
- If we have problems in the execution of these modes, we can check the Status number, then
with that we can know which condition didn’t arrive and we can check the dcc ELA1, which
mention all status step by step, in each page in a correct order.
