 BACKGROUND

Geophysics is a knowledge with a

close relation with geology. As geophysics
students, it is important to have a deep insight
towards geological knowledge because
geophysics and geology created a synergy.
Studying this synergicity, it is not just a matter of
the theory derived in classes, it is important to
have a field activity to increase the competence
about the knowledge which has been learned.

Karangsambung which is
located in Kebumen Regency, Central
Java Province is a natural laboratory
with a very complex geological
conditions. It makes Karangsambung
very interesting to be used as a
geological learning location. As well
as Cintaratu Village, Pasir Kadu Block,
which is located in Pangandaran
Regency, Central Java Province, has
the potential for sustainable
development. It makes Cinaratu
Village very interesting to be used in
applying various geophysical
methods to get the below surface
information.

By the means of that, we, the students of Geophysics – Faculty of Mathematics

and Natural Sciences University of Padjadjaran, will carry out a field activity titled
“GEOEXCURSION 2019” at the two places which are the UPT Earth Information and
Conservation Center, Karangsambung-LIPI and Cinaratu Village, Pangandaran Districts.

 PURPOSE
The purpose in holding this field lecture is to support the basis of
physical geology, structural geology and mapping while doing direct
observations from the structures in Karangsambung and applying
Geophysical methods (geomagnetic methods, gravity methods,
geoelectric methods, electromagnetic methods and seismic methods)
by taking data in Pangandaran.

AIM
• Knowing the lithology condition of the rock and the
characteristics of the geological structure at the excursion
location.
• Able to apply geophysical methods comprehensively
including data acquisition and interpretation.
• Able to correlate geological observations with the result
from the applied geophysical measurements.

TITLE AND THEME

The title of this activity is "GEOEXCURSION 2019". The theme of this activity is
“The Role of Young Geoscientists in National Development".

Karangsambung Excursion
Time : April 6, 2019 – April 12, 2019
Place : UPT Kebumian Information and Conservation Center,
Karangsambung-LIPI, Kebumen, Central Java Province.

Pangandaran Excursion
Time : June 10, 2019 – June 16, 2019
Place : Program Studi di Luar Kampus Utama (PSDKU) Universitas
Padjadjaran Cintaratu Village, Pasir Kadu Block, Pangandaran,
West Java Province.

PARTICIPANT
The participants of this event are 48 of Geophysics Student from Faculty of
Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Padjadjaran Batch 2016.

EVENT DESCRIPTION
The 2019 Geophysical Excursion is a series of activities from Geophysics
Study Program Batch 2016 in Padjadjaran University that will be held in two places,
which are Kebumen and Pangandaran districts.
This field lecture series will begin with geological studying on April 6 –
April 12 2019 at UPT Kebumian Karangsambung-LIPI Information and Conservation
Center, Kebumen Districts, Central Java Province. This geological study focuses on the
Physical Geology, Structural Geology, and Advanced Geological Studies.
The series of this field lectures were then followed by geophysical
studying on June 10 – June 16 2019 at the Padjadjaran University Main Campus Study
Program (PSDKU) in Cintaratu Village, Pasir Kadu Block, Gunung Tilu Hamlet,
Pangandaran Regency, West Java Province. This geophysical study focuses on the
application of several geophysical methods which are geoelectric methods, seismic
methods, gravity methods, magnetic methods, and electromagnetic methods. This
series of geophysical studies includes data acquisition, data processing, and data
interpretation.
