DAILY LESSON PLAN

Name of Teacher: Mr. Yosong C. Yensya School: Anne’s Raquel Hillside NHS Semester: First

Subject: Earth and Life Science

Date: May 8, 2017
Grade & Section: GAS 11
I. Objectives:
A. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of the formative of the universe and the solar
system
B. Performance Standard: The learners shall be able to make a research paper about the current/ information on the
solar system
C. Learning Competencies: State the different hypotheses explaining the origin of the universe (S11/12ES-Ia-e-1)
At the end of the session, learners are able to:
1. Describe the different hypotheses explaining the origin of the universe;
2. Explain what the universe is composed of
3. Develop awareness about the origin of the universe.

II. Content:
Universe and Solar System

III. Learning Resources:

A. References: Earth and Life Science, Philippine Copyright 2016, pp. 1-5
B. Other learning reference:
C. Materials: LCD, bond paper, marker, (colored paper, 1 piece of big balloon, 5 pieces of pebbles, 5 pieces of
small marbles, ¼ cup of water and 1 tbsp. of sand)

IV. Procedure:
A. Review of the previous lesson:
 Let the students answer the pre-test about the origin and structure of universe. See attachment at Annex A.

B. Establishing a purpose for the new lesson:

 Let the learners perform the activity no. 1 entitled “Jumbled Words” which about the important terms use to
describe the universe. See attachment at Annex B.

C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson:

 The previous activity helps us what universe is, but still it does directly answer one of our original questions-
“How did the universe originate”?
 The teacher will then present a video clip about the first theory which is the Big Bang Theory. Give them
some guide questions to be answered after the video.
Guide Questions:
1. What is Big Bang Theory?
2. How does Big Bang Theory formed?
 After the video the students will generalize their output in the class.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1:

 To understand more about big bang theory the teacher ask students to perform Activity No. 2: Bang That
Balloon! See attachment at Annex C.
Note: the teacher will provide all the materials needed.
 Students will ask to divide themselves into 6 groups.
 Student will then now perform the activity proper. Present their findings in front of the class.
Note: Outputs are graded as formative assessment.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2:

 The teacher will discuss the other theories about the origin of the universe.

F. Developing Mastery:

G. Making the generalizations and abstraction about the lesson:

1. The teacher will ask the students to explain the connection activities to the formation of the universe.
2. What are the different hypotheses about the origin of the universe?

H. Finding practical applications of concept and skills in daily living:

1. What is/are effects of the continuous expansion of the universe on Earth?

I. Evaluating learning:
 The teacher will ask students to answer the Post Test, pp.1-2
J. Enrichment/ Remediation:

K. Assignment:
 Research on the different theories on the origin of the solar system?

Activity No. 2: Bang That Balloon!

Materials: Colored paper, 1 piece of big balloon, 5 pieces of pebbles, 5 pieces of small marbles, ¼ cup of water and 1
tbsp. of sand

Procedures:
1. Put all the given materials inside the balloon.

3. Observe what will happen to the materials when the balloon bursts.

Guide Questions:
1. Compare the materials when they are inside the balloon and the balloon bursts.
2. Describe what happens to the materials when the balloon bursts.
3. Based on the activity, how will you describe the big bang theory of of the universe? How were the planets and
stars formed?
