How Old is the Earth?
The age of the
AGE OF THE
EARTH earth is around 4.6
billions year.
When did man
first appear on

various sites.

The human timeline is rather
flexible and debatable every
time we know a specific date,
a new discovery is announced
and everything gets redated
to fit the best estimates.

EVOLUTION a. Fossils are an essential
OF EARTH’S
HISTORY part of subdividing the
Geologic Time.
b. Biostratigraphy - a sub-
EVOLUTION discipline of stratigraphy
OF EARTH’S which deals with the use of
HISTORY fossils in correlation and
establishing the relative ages
of rocks.
c. Index Fossils - are marker fossils
used to define periods of Geologic
Time.
EVOLUTION
OF EARTH’S Ideally, index fossils are distinctive
HISTORY (can be easily identified and
distinguished from other fossils,
widespread (distribution is not
confined to a few locality) , and have
limited geologic time range.
d. Ultimately, the Geologic

numerical dates (absolute

radiometric dating of rocks.
