Grating deviation from PTS:

In K5 project contractor wants to deviate grating design from PTS which can with stand 10KPA UDL and
15KN point load on 300mm x 300mm area. However it is shown from preliminary observation that the
contractor is proposing larger grating width (1.36m) compare to PTS acceptable size (1m width).

Based on the analysis single bar due to 10KPA udl: UC = 67 MPa / (0.66x240 MPa) = 0.38; OK [Ref-Fig4]

Vertical deflection = 4mm < 1360/200 = 6.8mm ok. [Ref-Fig3]

Based on the analysis single bar due to 15KN point load: UC = 442/ 158 = 2.8; NOT OK; [Ref-Fig7]

Vertical deflection = 21mm > 1360/200 = 6.8mm NOT OK. [Ref-Fig6]

Conclusion:

1. Design is meeting 10KPA udl load however not suitable for 15KN point load. Present Contractor
grating design is not acceptable.
2. Please stick to PTS specified design for grating.
