A.Reading Process: is the process of translating letters and other symbols into meaningful information for
understanding and use in everyday life. In order to understand text, readers use the three schemas namely,
content schema, formal schema, and linguistic schema.
B.Scent of Apples: A story about a Filipino who works abroad and happens to meet a fellow Filipino there.
They talk reminiscing the life in the Philippines and mentioned how the scent of apples give nostalgia to the
man whom the author met.
C.Metacognitive Reading Strategies: makes the readers conscious of how they plan, monitor, and evaluate
their understanding of the reading material. It is based on the word “metacognition” meaning, awareness
and knowledge of one’s mental processes such that one can monitor, regulate and direct them to a desired
goal. There are three types of metacognitive reading strategies that readers need to consider in reading; pre-
reading, while-reading, and post-reading.
D.Bread of Salt: A story which depicts a routine of a teenager’s life, and his untold love to a girl. It also
shows a practice of the Filipino people of eating bread or “pandesal” in the morning.
E.Levels of Reading Comprehension: Comprehension is an active process in reading as it tells whether the
reader achieves literacy from the reading material read. Therefore, there are three levels of reading
comprehension namely, literal, interpretive, and applied.
