Barton alumnus enjoys prosperous career in educaton

Academics Month 2017

This story is the third of four in a series focused on some of Barton’s popular traditonal academic
offerings. The series Tas inspired by the inaugural Barton Academics Month through November. A neT

Casey Robinson has accomplished quite a bit in his career in educaton spanning about tTo decades. He
has coached footballn basketballn track and golf. He’s taught classesn served as principal for a handful of
schools and Torked his Tay up to superintendent. His roles have taken him around the countryn from
Kansas to Alaska and his current staten Wyomingn There he is the Assistant Middle School Principal at
Fremont County School District #25.

His decorated career started Tith an associate degree from Barton.

“Barton prepared me Tith prerequisites very Telln” he said. “I earned my degree and Tent on to Kansas
State Universityn There I Tas very successful. I Tas Tell-prepared for the higher-level classes.”

He said class sizes and personal atenton from instructors Tere among the key factors that led him to
choose Barton.

“Going on to a big four-year schooln you kind of become just a numbern” he said. “I think you have a
name at Barton.”

Robinson didn’t alTays knoT educaton Tas his destny. His degree at Barton Tas built to be fexible
Then he moved on to a four-year school so he could go in any directon.
For those Tho are certain they Tant to pursue a career in educatonn Barton has a neT partnership Tith
Fort Hays State University that alloTs students to complete a bachelor’s degree in educaton in only
three yearsn Thich the insttutons have aptly named “Degree in Three.” This proactve move is intended
to help fll the need for teachers in Kansas.

Even though his associates from Barton Tasn’t geared specifcally toTard transferring into an educaton
program like That is available noTn he said he Tas comfortable Tith uncertaintyn and that everything
Torked out perfectly.

“I’m glad I had the opportunity to atend Barton and I appreciate the efforts of the people Tho made my
experience there so successfuln” he said. “It got me off to a great start.”

After fnishing at Barton and KSUn Robinson earned his Master of Science in Educatonal Administraton
from Fort Hays State University.

Robinson said he also has no regrets about his chosen career.

“Both of my parents Tere in educatonn so that Tas a driving forcen” he said. “Looking backn I couldn’t
think of a beter career. I get to Tork Tith kids and prepare them for the next level in their lives. A major
beneft of being in educaton is seeing people groT and Tatching them take that next step and apply the
skills they learned from you. You can have an impact on a student to make them a beter person. I
Touldn’t do anything different.”

Also doing great things Tith her good friend Casey Robinson Hipp atended Goodland High School and
holds degrees from Fort Hays State University and Oklahoma University School of LaTn graduatng
magna cum laude at both universites. She is a lifetme resident of Kansas.

Hipp is a partner at Shermann Hoffman Hippn LC and has been Tith the EllsTorth frm for 18 years. She
is currently the Barton County Counselor and city atorneyyprosecutor for EllsTorthn Kanopolis and
Holyrood.
Hipp is married to Scot Hippn Tho Tas raised on his family’s farm outside of Odin. They have three
childrenn Elizabethn Benjamin and AndreT.
