19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust
destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor
rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your
whole body will be full of light.
23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If
therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that
darkness.
24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love
the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve God and mammon.

INTRODUCTION
Do you know the one thing GOD wants from you and me more than
anything else is OUR HEART.
HEART
But when the BIBLE talks about the HEART, it is talking about
more than the “physical organ” that pumps blood throughout our
bodies.
The heart is used in Scripture as the most comprehensive term for the
authentic person. It is the part of our being where we desire, deliberate,
and decide. It has been described as "the place of conscious and decisive
spiritual activity," "the comprehensive term for a person as a whole; his
feelings, desires, passions, thought, understanding and will," and "the
center of a person. The place to which God turns."
-PROVERBS 21:2 (NKJV) Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but
the Lord weighs the hearts.
MOSES
When GOD gave Moses the Ten Commandments, the very first
commandment involved THE GIVING OF ONE’S HEART TO GOD.
EXODUS 20:3 (NKJV) “You shall have no other gods before Me.
DAVID
When GOD sent the prophet Samuel to the home of Jessie to
choose from among his sons a new king for Israel, GOD didn’t
want Samuel to choose the TALLEST or the STRONGEST or the
MOST HANDSOME. God wanted Samuel to choose the one who had
THE RIGHT KIND OF HEART.
Of course we know the man GOD wanted was David, the man GOD
Himself calls, “The man after MY own HEART.”
HEART.” (Acts 13:22 )
THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT
When the Pharisees questioned JESUS about which of the
commandments was the “greatest”, Jesus said….
MATTHEW 22:37 (NKJV) “Love the LORD YOUR GOD with all
YOUR HEART,
HEART, and with all your SOUL and with all your
STRENGTH.
Notice JESUS puts THE HEART right at the very top of the
list!
In REVELATION chapter 2,
2 Jesus addressed His first of seven
letters to THE CHURCH AT EPHESUS. In that letter, JESUS
commended the Ephesian Church for their GOOD DEEDS……their
DEEDS
HARD WORK…….their
WORK PERSEVERANCE……and
PERSEVERANCE their DOCTRINAL
SOUNDNESS.

Brothers and sisters, if GOD doesn’t have our heart, then what
does He really have?
********************************************
Our scripture text in Matthew chapter six, comes at about the half
way point of Jesus' Sermon on The Mount. In this great sermon,
Jesus lays down the principles of Kingdom living. And in verses
19-24 of this sixth chapter, Jesus focuses special attention in this
matter of the heart.
There are just two key thoughts I would like to share with you
from these verses.
First of all, let’s consider…………..
ILLUSTRATION
Mrs. Bertha Adams was seventy-one years old when she died alone in West Palm
Beach, Florida on Easter Sunday 1976.

7. As you look inside your own heart right now, what do you
see? Is your heart filled with all kinds of “worldly
clutter” that is keeping you from loving GOD with all your
heart?

20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor
rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
His wife said, “Well which one belongs to the LORD, the brown one or
the white one?” The farmer said, “There’s no need to worry about
that now dear, I’ll decide that later.”
Several months went by and the farmer walked into his kitchen
one day with his head hanging low and a dejected look on his
face. His wife asked, “Why the sullen look, dear?” The farmer said,
“Well, I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news.” His wife asked, “What’s
that?” He said, “I’m afraid the LORD’S cow died.”
The rabbis of ancient Israel used to tell the story of King Monobaz.
When his angry brothers questioned him about giving away the
family fortune, King Monobaz replied………
You see, King Monobaz's heart was right with GOD. He lived by this
truth that Jesus has taught us here in Matthew 6 ; and that is he
understood that one cannot divide his love between GOD and the
things of this world.
How about you? Is your heart right with GOD this morning?
I ask you to prayerfully consider your answer to that
question as we come to our time of decision this morning.
