1. At the conference after the speaker’s talk on global warming, during the open forum, no one
dared to ask questions. Everyone was silent.
2. J and L were good friends but one time they had a serious fight. When the fight was over, J
realized that she was at fault and asked for forgiveness but L did not say anything but remained
silent.

3. Mr. Love paused (silence) for a few seconds before he announced this good news: As my way of
thanking all of you, Writers’ Guild Staff, for winning several awards in the national press
conference. I requested for an all-expense-paid out-of-town trip from the administration and
(silence-he paused again for 10 seconds) it was approved.

4. When the class was asked who among them would like to volunteer to recite the poem, Sonnet
18, no one responded. The class remained silent.

5. Teacher Love asked her class who among them was responsible to accidentally breaking a
cylinder after yesterday’s Science experiment. Everyone remained silent.
