Introduction
Energy is one of the basic needs of every people nowadays. It is use to
perform certain tasks. Because of the need of too much energy, some sources of it are
lacking. There are two types of energy; renewable and non-renewable energy. Non-
renewable energy is a source of energy that will eventually run out such as fossil fuels. It
is reliable but it does not last very long because it relies on resources like coal, oil and
natural gas. It also has impacts on the environment like air and water pollution, wildlife
and habitat loss and even on human health. Meanwhile, renewable energy is a source of
energy that comes from non-limited and renewable resources like wind, geothermal, and
solar. It is more reliable than non-renewable since it will not deplete gradually. It has less
environmental impacts. Thus, it contributes to the human health, lessens the effect of global
warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reliability and resilience and inexhaustible
energy. But it also has impacts depending on how it is used. If it is used too much and
incorrectly it can result to an unbalanced environment and it will affect everyone. It also
results to intermittency, geographic limitations, higher upfront cost and storage
capabilities.
Solar energy is an example of renewable energy and is one of the most
reliable sources of energy. It refers to getting energy from solar radiation and converting it
into electricity. Solar radiation comes from the largest source of energy received by Earth
which is the Sun. Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using
a range of ever-evolving technologies such as solar heating, photovoltaics, solar thermal
energy, solar architecture, molten salt power plants and artificial photosynthesis. It is an
important source of renewable energy and its technologies are broadly characterized as
either passive solar or active solar depending on how they capture and distribute solar
energy or convert it into solar power. Solar energy has least negative impacts than other
energy sources and it is applicable everywhere. It also helps in reducing electric bill and
creating many jobs. And more importantly, it can help the environment because it doesn’t
cause pollution and it doesn’t harm every life in our planet.
In a 21st century, different types of technology are invented to overcome barriers and that
what people commonly refer to the human condition just like electricity. As described in
energy saver series, to convert the direct current electricity gathered by solar panels into
the alternating current electricity that powers appliances and devices, solar panels route the
electricity through a conversion device as the inverter. By alternating current, electricity
runs through circuit breaker panels and into the home. Solar panel system is connected to
the utility provider's system through an electrical meter, redirects excess solar electricity to
the utility provider, turns the meter backwards and typically provides the homeowner with
credit. Alternately, the system does not connect to a utility provider's grid and often directs
excess electricity to a storage system, such as a battery bank. Solar panels that connect to
the sun's energy in the form of light and convert the energy into electricity. Although the
average consumer might associate solar panels with residential rooftop assemblies, solar
panels are available for a wide range of applications, including powering individual
gadgets, electronic devices and vehicle batteries (Grey 2004). In addition to rooftop arrays
that provide electricity to homes and businesses, manufacturers apply solar panel
technology to a wide range of consumer products. Lightweight needed are those portable
solar panels available to power small batteries and electronic devices, such as cell phones
and laptop computers, or as an emergency power supply for some people or places most
need it.

Statement of Need. Problem Statement

There are some Barangays in the Philippines wherein there is a lack of
lighting. Barangay San Francisco, Lipa City is one example of the places that lacks lighting
that will help citizen to do travel in roads that are very dark. The Barangay needs many
solar panel to produce lights for every part of it that is dark. It needs lights that is efficient
and can produce unlimited lights that will be a solution for the problem. Access to
electricity is sparse and expensive. The use of solar power in this kind of rural areas is a
cheaper, cleaner alternative. Solar power can minimizes the creation pollution indoors
causes no greenhouse gases to be emitted after installation creating a safer way to solve
this kind of problems. Applying solar power as lightning system operates on electricity
from batteries, charged through the use of solar photovoltaic panel.
Also it can be easier for the Barangay to install and maintain as they do not
require an electricity cable. Solar-powered indoor or outdoor lightning can replace other
light sources like candles or electricity effectively in Barangay San Francisco, Lipa City.
Solar powered lamps have a lower operating cost than electricity because renewable energy
from the sun is free, unlike electricity and it will benefit owners with reduced maintenance
cost and cost of electricity bills. If it is implemented in this Barangay will have the
capability of providing a supply of electricity for other consumption.
The students took a picture to make sure that the problem existed. Here’s what we
got in one place:
The project can’t be done without the place where the project will install. The
student conduct a preliminary observation for the place and with the help of the locals, the
place where the project will install was decided. It was in Purok 2, Barangay San Francisco,
Lipa City. There is a lack of lights in that street and also the vacant area is near through
houses. So, if there is any happen not well the people nearby will not be worried about the
danger may happen.

Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes

This project will use solar panels to provide efficient and clean energy by which
will be stored and used as emergency lighting. It will provide benefits for Barangay that
lack electrical energy. This project will create an efficient way to acquire and convert
energy for electrical uses specifically lighting.
This project will help the Barangay San Francisco, Lipa City to have unlimited lights that
will be used to solve their problem. It will provide lights from renewable energy which is
solar energy and converted into electricity. It will provide benefits for the Barangay and to
other drivers that are using the roads of the Barangay.
It is a project that will provide lights and efficient source of energy for the Barangays.
It is a source of energy that will not produce air pollution or greenhouse gases. It is a
renewable source of energy. This will also help the citizen to reduce electricity bills. And
this machine uses batteries to store energy that will be used at night.
Project Description
The sun has produced energy for billions of years. Solar energy is the sun’s rays.
And it can be converted into other forms of energy, such as electricity using solar panel.
Solar LED street lights rely on the photovoltaic process, which allows the solar cell to
convert sunlight into usable electrical energy. This is done when negatively-charged
electrons push solar energy into positively-charged spaces in the cells. This process allows
solar energy to transfer into the electrons – becoming direct current electricity.
Here is the process:

1. First, solar panels absorb the sun’s energy during daytime and convert this solar energy
into usable electrical energy.

2. The second step, electricity will flow to power the lamps during night time.
3. And then the excess electricity will charge the battery and storing more energy for the
light.
4. This process repeats every day, and potentially even be a way for the street light to have
a sustainable source of energy for as long as the sun is up.

Since the materials are water proof, the estimation lifespan of this project is about 9-12
years.
