We find ourselves wondering, what is the most important institutions that has served well for
generations, in which it can continue to function well and provide us the benefits they have brought
us before. One of the most important of these institutions is the Financial System – the vast complex
of banks, security dealers, mutual funds, insurance and finance companies and thousands of other
financial –service providers and the dynamic money and capital markets that surround them. The
great financial marketplace today encircles the globe and may look solid and secure. But, it too faces
great uncertainty and the pressures of on- going turmoil. From what we learned on the tragedy of
9/11, the global financial system like the rest of the economy is vulnerable in a tumultuous world, and
we must find ways to ensure its soundness and guarantee that the financial services it provides are
available as demanded every single day. No other institution on our planet provides us with as many
critically important services as the global financial system. And everyday of our existence the great
system of money and capital markets:

1. Supplies us with credit


2. Encourages our savings
3. Transform our savings into investments
4. Provides a channel for payments
5. Creates liquidity in the economy
6. Supplies risk protection for individuals and institutions
7. Provides a channel for public policy to promote growth and prosperity

As you scan the foregoing list above, what do you think is the Vital Tasks performed by modern
financial systems so an individual may feel an awesome system of money and capital markets and
financial institution. And what contribution/how will you contribute in improving the function of the
system for the public’s benefit. Explain your opinion and constructive criticism and ideas of today’s
financial market in a one sheet of short bond paper. And to be submitted right after the one hour
scheduled class.

CASE NO. 2. A owes B P1 million. But the debt has already prescribed. If A, knowing that it has
prescribe, nevertheless still pays B the P1 million. Can he get back what he has voluntarily paid? What
is the sanction? ( 5 points).

CASE NO. 3. What is the sanction if a Catholic individual does not hear mass on Sundays and Holy Days
of obligation? (5 points).

CASE NO. 4. Article 1156 defines obligation as “ a juridical necessity to give, to do, or not to do.”
What does it stresses on the duty of obligor? ( 5 points )

CASE NO. 5. A borrower agreed to pay his debt, and in case of non-payment, to render free service
as a servant. Is the obligation valid? ( 5 POINTS )

CASE NO. 6. The defendant in a criminal case for physical injuries died before final judgment of the
case, is his civil liability extinguished? (5 points).

CASE NO. 7. If a person is sued for causing damage thru the violation of traffic rules, the accusation is
one referring to? (Please elaborate.) (5 points).

CASE NO. 8. D (debtor) borrowed P 10,000.00 from C (creditor). On the due date of the loan, D could
not pay C, because he lost to a robber the P 10,000 intended for C. In addition, he suffered financial
reverses, and he was short of cash even for his current family’s needs. Is D justified to refuse to pay D.
(5 POINTS).
