Definitions of Environmental Engineering as adopted by the American
Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists.
The professional discipline of Environmental Engineering is defined as
the application of engineering principles to improve and maintain the environment for the protection of human health, for the protection of nature's beneficial ecosystems, and for environment-related enhancement of the quality of human life.
What do Environmental Engineers do?
Environmental Engineers use the principles of engineering, soil
science, biology, and chemistry to develop solutions to environmental problems. They are involved in efforts to improve recycling, waste disposal, public health, water supply and drainage, and water and air pollution control. Environmental engineering is a sub-discipline of Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering Everything is soon to be trash… Return more waste to the Environment…. Remedy / Clean-up is necessary.
Clean technologies should be designed.
Limits must be discerned.
Sustainable development should be ensured.
That’s where Environmental Engineering comes in. (Prof. Benoit Cushman-Roisin’s Lecture note)
