Student Wellness Centre

The need to complete extensive academic work and deal with a completely new (and at times
stressful) environment can understandably lead to isolation, feeling overwhelmed or breakdowns.
While we, as seniors, and your batchmates, shall try to be your pillars of support, sometimes getting
professional (and mature/adult) help becomes necessary. The institute has a well functioning
Student Wellness Centre, which has a team of consultants and clinical psychologists who will help
you deal with stress and emotional exhaustion. You can walk in and chat with them under complete
privacy. They shall provide you sensitive care tailored to your unique needs. Please don’t stigmatize
this in your mind, it is absolutely normal to ask for help: from well-meaning humans who shall
reach out to make you feel better.
Anti Ragging Cell

We here at AIIMS have a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and bullying.

Should you find yourself in or are aware of someone else being in such an un-
pleasant situation, please do not hesitate to contact the ‘warden on duty’ at the Anti
Ragging Cell. Remember, ragging is a criminal offence and the Student Union of
AIIMS has a policy of welcoming the freshers with dignity and friendship, without
intimidation of anyone. Any student found guilty of encouraging such acts will
invite immediate punishment as per the Institute’s rules.

gatherings.
Uses- Match screenings (attention, cricket and
football lovers!), meetings of any sort including
chalk-talks by seniors, can use to screen any pop-
ular show. Keys are available with the guards for

for 5th hostel TV room.

LIT NIGHTERS
If light hearted fun involving words, wordplay or
just absolute raucousness is your thing, then they
are for you. Every fortnight, weekends at 9pm in
the SU room, be there for a wide range of games
such as dumb charades, pictionary, taboo, scrabble
etc (the list goes on). [You may ask, “Where’s the
‘literary’ part of all this?” Yes, we ask ourselves that
too]. Any new ideas for games, even if they don’t
work, are absolutely welcome. These nighters are a
time of comfort, chillness and noise that will grow
to be a part of you. Be there to experience it!

MUSIC ROOM
A great place to practise your music, prep for band
nights or just jam. With apparent sound proofing,
everyone in hostel 5 will know when you’re
playing! Keys often switch between the pockets of
those who frequent the room, hence you’ll have
to call quite a few people up before you get inside
the room.
CLUBS
&
SOCIETIES
The AIIMS Gymkhana society has never disap-
pointed the sports enthusiasts. Last year, with the
successful organization of a one-of-its-kind sports
league for football, volleyball and basketball,
it has only gotten better. (For the cricket fans
out there, don’t be disheartened, for we will be
starting hard ball cricket league shortly too.) The
process included auctions, the crowd puller, and
selection of captains using virtual money, i.e. stars.
The residents participated as well.
The volleyball league has concluded, while the
BB and football leagues are half way through. The
matches will restart soon, along with coaching too.
You can check out the football teams’ and players’
stats on the app that we have designed. https://
copafacil.page.link/242wA2kjavpDnwP69
For participating in any of the leagues, send
your name and batch to the Gymkhana secretary
Mohammad Fawas (+919810343621).
PS: Just in case, it is absolutely free!

of the things we (about 5 of your immediate

we formed in early Jan, we have played for the V

First Year
Movies

Hey there! You wouldn’t believe us how much time you shall spend watching movies this year!
Cinema shall not only be a pastime and stress buster for you in college, but also shall expose you to
diverse perspectives and ideas. The usual reaction in AIIMS to someone who confesses to not having
watched a movie is, ‘Arey ye to first year movie hn yaar..’ But surprisingly, there is no consensus on
what those ‘first year movies’ actually are! Hence, we decided to compile a list for you.
The idea is not to introduce to niche or artsy flicks that could put you to sleep. We intend to intro-
duce you to diverse genres and languages, so that you develop your own taste of cinema. You could
even use movies to learn English or Hindi. Maybe even a foreign tongue! We encourage watching
world cinema with subtitles - you shall be surprised at the new world that unfurls! Neither is this
coursework, nor is it a checklist. Feel free to choose a la carte!
And yes, Jab tak is desh mein sanima hai, log ch*tiya bante rahenge!
Books I wish I had
read in my first year!
Many of us come across books and
realise, I wish I had read it before. So
we thought it would be a good idea to
compile a list of book recommendations.
These are for all genres: academic text-
books, academic non-textbooks, fiction,
non fiction, etc. An unconventional
textbook that we found interesting, a
quirky series of articles that shaped our
ideology, a book that we think is a classic
that everyone should absolutely read:
we have put it all here.

PS: We shall try to keep

updating the list.
