Wee Owl Crochet Appliqué

Materials: Worsted Weight


Abbreviations Used:
Yarn
Ch- chain
Crochet Hook G (4 mm)
Sc- single crochet
For eyes: Yellow vinyl or felt
Sl st- slip stitch
Plastic eyes
Hdc- half double crochet
Tacky glue

Owls Head:
Using white yarn or your desired color for
making this owl:

Round 1: Chain 5, 2 sc in second ch from hook, 2


sc, 3 sc in last chain. Continue working on the
back of the chain; 2 sc, 2 sc in last st. Join with
a sl st to the first sc.

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, 3 sc, 2 sc in next


sc, 1 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc. Join
with a sl st. Fasten off.

Ears:
Join yarn on the top right of the Owls head you just made.

Ch 1, pull up yarn, work 1 hdc and fasten off. Leave a short tail attached.
Work the beginning tail up to the tail at the top. Unravel the two tails.

Owls Body:
Round 1: Ch 6, 2 sc in second ch from hook, 3 sc, 3 sc in last ch. Continue
working on the back of the chain; 4 sc. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in next sc, 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 5 sc,
join with a sl st to the first sc.

Wings: Make two at each side of the owl’s body.


Ch1, 3 dc in next st, 1 sl st. Weave tails on the wrong side.

For the eyes I used vinyl. You may also cut out circles from yellow felt if you do
not have vinyl. I used super glue to attach the black plastic eyes to the vinyl
circle. If you use the felt and do not have plastic eyes, you could make French
knots or even sew a tiny bead for the black eye. The plastic eyes I used are flat
on the back.
